Southmoore High School Pre-AP English II Summer Reading

Southmoore High School Pre-AP English II Summer Reading Assignment 2017-2018 All students enrolled or intending to enroll in Pre-Ap English II will be required to complete a summer reading assignment. Students are asked to choose one book from the 2018 Sequoyah High School Masterlist to complete the assignment. (see attached list) This year’s assignment will consist of reading a Sequoyah book and creating a book trailer to present in class in August. What is a book trailer? A “trailer” is a brief video synopsis of a book, designed to create interest for the viewer. Book trailer description: * introduce the setting and main characters * brief synopsis of story * use of images, sound, and video * end with a leading question to hook the viewer * 1-2 minutes in length How to! 1. Start by watching other book trailers. You can search YouTube or visit Author’s websites to get some good ideas. 2. As you watch trailers, find things that make it really stand out. Would you want to read this book? Why? 3. Use a basic plot diagram to plan out your important details. Cover exposition, rising action, climax, and falling action. DO NOT give away the ending (resolution) of the book! 4. Use resources listed below to find elements (sound, video, pictures) that you will incorporate into your trailer. Consider using images that might represent how you picture the characters in the book. You could also use pictures of characters in certain situations to show conflict in the book or use more generic images to make a more symbolic representation of the book. 5. Use one of the options below (or one of your choice) to create your book trailer. Many book trailers incorporate video, however that is very time consuming and more difficult to accomplish. It is still very effective to use only words and images to create your trailer. 6. Save your work and you will share that with your teacher closer to the due date.
