The event was put into our calendar because an impromptu game used to fill in a ‘gap’ in one of our entertainment evenings proved to be so popular many people asked for a whole evening of Bingo. Paul Murphy had taken up the challenge of Bingo Caller and although his first time ’out’ he was a natural. We loved having him as our Bingo Caller and so an event was planned. We paid out above average prize money for full houses in the main Bingo Books and even bigger amounts for the flyers. All winners of a line had a fantastic prize from the prizes that had been donated to us throughout the month. We raised £160 for St David’s due to the generosity of all of those that supported us on this our first Bingo Evening. In between the Bingo night and our next fundraiser I really enjoyed being at the Newport Half Marathon with my friend Julie. The weather was kinder this year than last year, definitely not as cold, didn’t even mind the small amount of rain that appeared now and again. It was very rewarding to be taking part in just a small way and helping out all the individuals who run for charity. Life is not all about what you spend on yourself, there is as much or more satisfaction in giving to help other people. All the runners were so thankful for all the help they were given but we were even more thankful for the many people running for such wonderful causes. What struck me that day was, however big or small the event and whatever your role, we are all in it together to help to make life better for others in the Community. 3 John Hartson is a supporter of this fund raising campaign. Jackie Lewis© Newsletter Edition 8 FOUR AMAZING INDIVIDUALS WHO MADE THE DECISION TO COMBINE FITNESS WITH THE WORLD OF FUNDRAISING Pontypool 10K (23/02/14), the Newport Half Marathon (02/03/14) and KATE WATERS Kate Waters a friend of Steve’s for most of his life took us by surprise following her decision to start running again, when she asked us if she could raise money for St David’s in Steve’s name and add the money to our total. Kate was amazing, we were very touched and so glad that we were there to cheer Kate on. This is what Kate said: “Less than 5 months ago (October 5th to be exact) I did my first park run and couldn't even run a full 5k. Today I completed the Newport half marathon! Just goes to show what you can do when you put your mind to it. Even better than that, I've raised a massive £300 for the fantastic St David's Hospice Care too! So thank you to everyone who sponsored me, at the 9 mile mark when it was getting difficult it was your generosity that got me to the end! Jackie Lewis© Newsletter Edition 8 OUR ST DAVID’S DAY EVENT Our poster said it all, what a fabulous and unforgettable night it was. A sell out event with loads of raffle prizes, Dean Mack was everything that we thought he would be and more and we felt extremely lucky that Dean came along to entertain us on our St David’s Day Annual event. I will let the photographs tell the story rather than my words but after expenses we raised £287.50 and that weekend we put that together with an individual donation of £50 from Julie Gibson, £5 from the sale of chocolate lollipops made by Sue, Murphy and £2 not added from our photography competition and we made our total up to £22,500.
