Their season was highlighted by a truly team effort with every player contributing in significant ways throughout the season. After 9 years of junior cricket, for all but two players (including the coach), the greatest team reward was achieved on their final day of junior cricket – a first and final junior Premiership! Probably the biggest change for us as an association was the introduction of the new Cricket Australia cricket formats and the subsequent adoption of the new Stage 1 formats for our U9 and U10 age groups. We also formally rolled out our formal heat policies. All that notwithstanding, the season progressed and all grades were contested and played in the good spirit for which our association is known. Tonight and here in our Yearbook we acknowledge and reward those teams and individual successes that have been achieved this season and I extend my congratulations to all our award winners. This season, the PJCA again witnessed growth in our player numbers, with 75 (Saturday) teams and 8 Thunder Girls Cricket League (TGCL) teams registering from U8-U16, across 10 junior clubs. This equated to just under 1,000 junior cricketers turning out each week for their club to play some form of junior cricket. With the introduction of the new format into the Under 10 program, we have had some very constructive feedback which we have passed onto Cricket NSW and Cricket Australia. There were many positives and some challenges which we look forward to being addressed in the coming years. Thank you all for your assistance. Further, the engagement in the Cricket Australia Milo In2Cricket and T20 Blast programs continues to be strong. The PJCA have also continued to work hard to engage and attract more players through some game format modifications and the implementation of a PJCA Milo T20 Blast program during Term 1, 2017. This 4 hub model provided activations throughout the PJCA region including, Glenmore Park, St Clair, Glenbrook and Springwood, with each junior club linked to one of the hubs, providing clubs with new player signings. I would like to thank all the club volunteers that supported each hub and especially Jake Balnave, our Cricket NSW Development Manager for his support and work with our Association on this and other initiatives to grow the game in Penrith. To my personal satisfaction, the PJCA continues to excel with its development of female cricket with our second year of our Thunder Girls Cricket League competition. This year we saw 8 teams participate and welcomed a team from the north as we were joined by Hawkesbury. Friday evenings at Jamison Park continues to be the place to be for Girl Club Cricket. This has proved a very useful introduction for the girls, many of whom are now competing in higher forms of the game. To the many volunteers that assisted, my deepest thanks. For the record, Season 2017-18 witnessed: • 86 teams participated • 180 games of junior cricket were played • 110,133 runs were scored • 6055 wickets were taken • 45 scores of 100 or more • 3 scores of 200 or more • 15 bowlers took 5 wickets or more in an innings • 6 bowlers took a hat trick I would like to personally thank the work of our PJCA Vice President and Competition Secretary, Alex Fenn, for his astute and effective match administration. Your drive and support this year to me has been nothing short of fantastic. Thank you also to our Umpires Coordinator, Andrew Kennedy for his appointment and organisation of umpires to our games throughout the season. 2017/18 District Yearbook 6 Again, the PJCA remains financially stable, thanks to the efforts of our Treasurer, John Jennings. Thank you also to all our valued PJCA sponsors for their financial support. Many thanks to our PJCA Secretary, Megan White for all her administrative work that keeps the association ticking along. I would also like to thank the entire Representative Committee run by Brendan Bayliss. A very successful team of dedicated volunteers without whom our elite level players would not be able to represent Penrith. On a personal note, being a reluctant President this year due to a number of other commitments, I could not have seen this year out without the additional help of both Grant Kean and Craig Batty. Thank you both for your support and counsel through the year. We acknowledge the relationships built with our affiliates, the NDCA and Penrith Cricket Club and thank them for their support of junior cricket in Penrith. Thank you also to Penrith City Council for their work in preparing grounds each week as well as support off the field to support our wonderful game. Volunteers are the heart and soul of our association, I acknowledge every single Club coach, manager, scorer, every Club President, Secretary and committee member and thank them for their time, their effort and their input to ensuring the great game of cricket is accessible to all in our district. Our PJCA Volunteer of the Year Award will again acknowledge the special contribution made by one of our hardest working volunteers. Congratulations once again to our team and individual winners on your performances and success this season. Enjoy the accolades and keep loving the game we all love! We welcomed some new players to our team this year, and over the weeks and months, while there were some impressive individual displays, we saw each and every player improve their game and skill level as a whole. Week in and week out the boys put their hearts into every game - cheering the big shots as they were hit and the wickets as they fell. Seeing them all work together as a team was very rewarding, but the biggest reward was having them finish the season on top! We had some strong competition in the other teams that we played, and we’re looking forward to playing you again next season! We would like to thank the parents for their support in getting the boys to training every week, and for stepping in to help out with training and on game days whenever help was needed – we really appreciate it! To all of our supporters who came to watch our games, thank you! Finally, to the boys – Bailey, Ben, Chase F, Chase H, Jedd, Jacob, Mitchell, Riley and Wil Congratulations! Enjoy your win! It has been a joy to coach and manage you all, and we look forward to doing it all again next season! Glen Carter Emma Carter Coach Manager 2017/18 District Yearbook 9 UNDER 11 – N RANCE TROPHY GLENMORE PARK - BLACK Glenmore Park Black Under 11's had a cracking season going undefeated all the way through the season and then through to winning the grand final. During the season we had our fair share of big wins, yet also had to dig deep and grind out some close victories against some very tough competition. We started the year strong and it was evident early that we were the 'benchmark' team of the 11's competition. We had a great bunch of boys and girl and it showed with terrific team harmony and enthusiasm. There was also too many outstanding individual performances to mention, most importantly, we experienced each of the children shining throughout the regular season. I would like to thank all of the parents, grandparents and friends of the players who supported us during the season and helped with the scoring.
