Instruction Sheet PART NO. 25660 P A T E N T N O . U S 7 , 5 1 3 , 5 1 4 B FORD RANGER T6 FRONT ADJUSTABLE UPPER CONTROL ARM This part should only be installed by personnel who have the necessary skill, training and tools to do the job correctly and safely. Incorrect installation can result in personal injury, vehicle damage and / or loss of vehicle control. Plan Ahead - Read All Instructions BEFORE installing part. Check for loose or worn parts, proper tire pressure, and odd tire wear patterns before beginning alignment. 1. Raise vehicle by frame and support with jack stands. Remove front tire and wheel assemblies. 2. Loosen and remove brackets holding ABS wire to factory upper control arm. Retain hardware for later. 3. Remove cotter pin and nut holding OEM ball joint to spindle. Break the taper between ball joint stud and spindle. (SPC tool 8370, 37985, and 37990 all will work well to break the taper.) 4. Loosen and remove upper control arm bolt. Discard OEM washers, remove control arm, taking care to support spindle so the ABS and brake lines are not damaged. 5. Using SUPPLIED GREASE ONLY, liberally coat the inside of all four control arm bushings, making sure all small voids are filled with grease. Press a pivot sleeve (#B-Figure 1) into each bushing until it is flush with the outside of the bushing. This will push some grease out, which is normal. Apply grease to the outboard end of each bushing where they contact the included washers (#A-Figure 1) . The inboard surface should be left dry so it doesn’t attract dirt. 6. Insert the SPC upper control arm onto strut tower and re-install the larger washer and the OEM control arm bolt. The left arm should have a visible “L” facing up on A Figure 1 the ball joint mounting plate, while the right arm will show “R”. Install the other large washer and nut. Tighten nut to factory specification. 7. Install the star plate over the hex on the ball joint per the chart below to achieve the B desired caster change relative to the stock arm. (For most trucks with approx. 50mm of lift, setting “D” should return caster to factory specifications.) Insert the ball joint up through the bottom of the arm, indexing the star plate in the machined slot, and then install the washer and nut. B 8. Slide the ball joint to the midpoint of its travel in the arm slot and tighten the nut. 9. Install the ball joint stud into the spindle with provided castle nut. Tighten castle nut to 61 N·m (45 ft-lb), then tighten until cotter pin can be installed. A 10. Reinstall ABS brackets onto SPC upper control arm. 11. Grease ball joint with an NLGi #2, Grade LB with 3%-5% Molybdenum Disulfide grease. 5 to10 pumps of grease is sufficient at each lubrication. Grease WARNING: FAILURE TO GREASE AND MAINTAIN THIS BALL JOINT MAY RESULT IN PREMATURE FAILURE Zerk 12. Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly. Lower the vehicle, verify proper caster. Set camber by loosening the upper ball joint nut and sliding the ball joint in the arm. Then set toe. Once desired camber setting is achieved, torque top ball joint nut to 203 N·m (150 ft-lb). Road test the vehicle.
