Basketball: Glasgow Rocks in BBL Cup Final The Rocks, Scotland’s only professional basketball team, have been enjoying their best ever start to a season in the British Basketball League’ and are currently sitting 5th in the Championship table. Although their last two matches have ended in defeat, the Rocks still have the chance to grab the season’s first silverware at the BBL Cup Final on Sunday 15TH January. The Final takes place at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, when the Rocks will face Newcastle Eagles who are sitting second top in the BBL Championship. The Rocks’ last met the Eagles in October at the Emirates, where the Eagles came out on top. Hopefully the Rocks will fare better on Sunday. You can watch Rocks and Team GB co-captain Keiron Achara’s take on Sunday’s final at https://www.facebook.com/GlasgowRocks/ As well as exposure through the Rocks social media channels, and courtside advertising at each home game, the College enjoys other benefits from the relationship with the Rocks: As many staff will be aware, we have a number of free arena tickets for staff and students at each home game, as well as12 reserved seats in our courtside box. Discounted match tickets are also available for GKC students and staff, over and above our sponsor’s free allocation. GKC events, hospitality and sports students can also gain valuable work experience through volunteering opportunities with the Rocks. Rocks playing and coaching staff are available for College activities (such as lecture guest spots) and events. For example, we will hopefully see the Rocks play some demonstration games at the re-opening of the Springburn games hall. The College also gets to choose one fixture per season where we are the featured sponsor. As well as giving us more coverage at the event, we also get 200 free tickets for students, staff and College guests. This year’s match will be against Cheshire Phoenix and will take place at the Emirates on Friday 17th February; tip-off 7.30pm. More information on this game and how to request tickets will be emailed out nearer the time. .
