CCLI License # 393266 The Sermon Rev. Gene Sherman “Compelled, Pt. 2” The people stand. The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, he became incarnate 6 www.ChristChurchWestshore.com from the Virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The people sit or remain standing. The Prayers of the People In peace we pray to you, Lord God. For all people in their daily life and work; For our families, friends, and neighbors, and for those who are alone. For this community, the nation, and the world; For all who work for justice, freedom, and peace. For the just and proper use of your creation; For the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression. For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble; For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the needy. For the peace and unity of the Christian Church worldwide; For all who proclaim the Gospel, and all who seek the truth. CHRIST CHURCH WESTSHORE 7 For Foley, our Archbishop, Mark, our Bishop; and for all bishops and other ministers; For all who serve God in his church. For the special needs and concerns of this congregation. The people may add their own intercessions at this time. Hear us Lord. For your mercy is great. We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life. The people may add their own thanksgivings at this time. We will exalt you, O God our King; And praise your name forever and ever. We remember those who have died in Christ. Lord, let your loving-kindness be upon them; Who put their trust in you. The Confession and Absolution We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins. Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so, uphold us by your spirit that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 8 www.ChristChurchWestshore.com Hear the word of God to all who truly turn to him: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 ESV The Peace The peace of the Lord be always with you. And with your spirit. Then the Ministers and People may greet one another in the name of the Lord. Announcements / Birthdays / Anniversaries Birthdays: Robbie Middlemiss June 13 Linda Ward June 18 Rob Schoenherr June 14 Kerry Sheldon June 19 Tommy Houston June 15 Question for Week 25 The New City Catechism Does Christ’s death mean all our sins can be forgiven? Yes, because Christ’s death on the cross fully paid the penalty for our sin, God graciously imputes Christ’s righteousness to us as if it were our own and will remember our sins no more. (2 Corinthians 5:21) For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Offertory CHRIST CHURCH WESTSHORE 9 Please stand. Doxology Hymn 380, v. 3 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host: Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. The people remain standing. THE HOLY COMMUNION The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. For you are the source of light and life; you made us in your image and called us to new life in Jesus Christ our Lord.
