Capital Region Transportation Safety Coalition Young Drivers Working Group Meeting February 13, 2020 / 9am - 11am / Goodwood Library - Room 102 Action Step (Angela & Kenyatta) - Identify opportunities to conduct education and observation compliance related to seat belt or distracted driving on high school and/or college campus followed by observational data 1-week following-YD Observation Education Event. Output Measure: Number of campuses participating in YD Observation Education Event. • Per Autumn, surveys will be pushed out by week of Mardi Gras or no later than March 31st • Central High School (seat belt observation) – April 2020 • LSU (distracted driving observation) – Summer 2020 • Southern University (distracted driving observation) – Fall 2020 Action Step (Stephanie) - Distribute the 1 Hour YD (15-17) Program to school boards and LEAs to help identify and encourage participation of organizations not already involved in a YD educational program. ✓ COMPLETED Output Measure: Number of schools and/or LEAs using the DZD 1 Hour Young Driver (15-17) Education Program. • Big Buddy Program – Feb 2020 – Using presentation • Dutchtown High School – Feb 2020 – Using Presentation • Zachary High School Action Step (Kenyatta) - Establish YD Safety Day at local college campus with 4Es and each emphasis area represented-Safety Day (Named University). Output Measure: Number of college campuses participating in Safety Day (Named University) • Baton Rouge Community College – Planned event – awaiting date confirmation • Louisiana State University – Planned event – awaiting date confirmation • Southern University – Planned event – awaiting date confirmation (Team Waiting on LSU and Southern University for dates of planned events) • Kenyatta – Upcoming BRCC Spring Fling Event - Reach out to BRCC School Chief Action Step (Stephanie) - Continue to recruit driving schools to SHSP regional coalition by providing standardized recruitment template provided by the statewide team. Output Measure: Number of driving schools participating in the SHSP. ✓ COMPLETED • Two new driving schools have joined the CRTSC in 2020. Invitations are sent quarterly. o Breaux’s Driving School (Gonzales, LA) o Road Scholar Driving Academy (Walker, LA) o Action Step Leader will continue to recruit every quarter Action Step (Kenyatta) - Promote SHSP Safety YD Campaigns.
