Options 2021 This evening will help you to: • learn more about the different post-16 options available • get more information first-hand from the representatives Your options Staying in learning Whatever you choose to do after Year 11, it should involve some form of learning. This can be: • Full time study e.g. college or sixth form. • An apprenticeship • Work based learning e.g. a traineeship. • A job with part time study (at least 20 hours a week). • Volunteering with part time study (at least 20 hours a week). You can learn full time at • • Longley Park Sixth Form College • The Sheffield College (City, Hillsborough, Olive Grove, Peaks) • Thomas Rotherham College • Barnsley College • Rotherham College • UTC Sheffield (city centre and Olympic Legacy Park campuses) • Chapeltown Academy • A school sixth form • Other training providers. Full time learning • Your main course of study at a level that matches your grades • Should include English and Maths if you don’t achieve GCSE grades 4-9. • ‘Enrichment activities’ e.g. work experience or volunteering. Examples d.o.e Apprenticeships • Apprenticeships are: • Real jobs that pay a wage (£3.70 per hour) while you learn. • Part time study in the work sector concerned. • Training is at different levels which could lead up to degree level qualifications T Levels • A new qualification lasting 2 years • The equivalent to A levels (Available at Barnsley College) • A technical award that is designed by employers to include a combination of study and work • Focuses on SKILLS to be able to do a particular job, which can then lead to a degree apprenticeship • Includes a minimum of 45 days work experience Next steps! Sheffield Progress • A website to help you find courses and work based learning in Sheffield and across the country. • An online applications system, used for applications to local sixth forms and colleges (login / password needed). www.sheffieldprogress.com Next steps! • Use www.sheffieldprogress.com. • Go to open events / careers events in the autumn term. • Applications should reach Sheffield Progress by the 31st January 2021. • Students need to submit their applications to tutors by 18th December 2020 Thank you.
