Glenmoor and Winton Come out on Top As Progress

Glenmoor and Winton Come Out on Top as Progress 8 results for all mainstream schools in England are published Glenmoor and Winton Academies are celebrating the latest set of government figures released which are used to measure school performance. The Progress 8 measure shows how well pupils at schools have progressed between the end of primary school (key stage 2) and the end of secondary school (key stage 4), compared to pupils in other schools who got similar results at the end of primary school. This is based on results in up to 8 GCSE qualifications which include English, maths, humanities, sciences, languages and the arts. 2016 is the first year that all schools have had their progress 8 score published. It is the new accountability measure designed by the department for education to allow parents to judge a schools effectiveness. The average progress 8 score across all mainstream schools in England is 0. The higher the score the more progress children at that school make compared to those of similar ability. Glenmoor Academy achieved the highest Progress 8 score of all Bournemouth schools, just pipping Winton Academy which is in second place. When looking at the wider local area and including Christchurch and Poole schools, Glenmoor and Winton sit at joint second and third place respectively. Glenmoor and Winton are two separate Academies – one for girls and one for boys – which enjoy the benefits of co-location. Students share resources, staff, extra-curricular provision and social time whilst being taught in single-sex groups. Both Academies were over-subscribed last year and expect to be this year, as their reputation for academic excellence and pastoral care grows in the community. Listed below is the performance of all secondary schools in Bournemouth based on the recently published progress 8 scores for GCSE results achieved in the summer of 2016. These figures demonstrate the significant progress that our students made since coming here in Year 7 and which were translated into excellent results this summer. These figures are a new national benchmark that reflect the difference that attending a certain school makes to the qualifications children leave with, so it is highly encouraging for us that we have done so very well. Students and staff here work hard in every year group and it is excellent to see how well we have performed not just locally but in comparison with every other school in the country.” .
