January 22, 2010 Calgary athletes qualify for the 2010 Alberta Winter Games Bonnyville/Cold Lake... Approximately 324 Calgary athletes from Zone 3 have qualified to take part in the upcoming 2010 Alberta Winter Games. The 2010 Alberta Winter Games, the province’s premier multi-sport event for youth, will take place at venues in the Town of Bonnyville, the MD of Bonnyville, the City of Cold Lake and CFB 4 Wing Cold Lake from February 4 - 7. The games will involve approximately 2,300 athletes, coaches and technical officials participating in 24 different sporting events. Ranging from 11 to 17 years of age, these athletes qualified to attend the games through zone playoffs. The games will kickoff with the opening ceremonies on February 4. The next three days will be filled with exciting competition in events including alpine skiing, biathlon, figure skating, hockey and speed skating. The Alberta Games take place every two years. The 2010 Alberta Summer Games take place in the Peace Region from July 19-25.
