Policy Unit: 4d MU10 Aldrington to Brighton Marina (Western Arm) Topographic Beach Profiles 4d00443 – 4d00577 Summary The Aldrington to Brighton Marina frontage is a south-southwest facing stretch backed by the city centre of Brighton and Hove. The back of the beach is delineated by a seawall and promenade along the majority of the frontage, with shingle retained by concrete wall groynes spaced between 75 and 150m apart. The presence of Brighton Marina at the eastern extent of the Unit has a considerable impact on the stability of the eastward drifting shingle bank, with the large accumulation of material in the eastern quarter giving rise to a very significant 50m width berm. In May 2010, Shoreham Port Authority extracted 7,500m 3 of shingle in the vicinity of the Black Rock storm water outfall at the eastern extent, deposited at the western end of Unit 9B. It is anticipated that further removal of accumulated material will be undertaken in the future, as part of the biannual Shoreham Harbour Bypassing Scheme.
