LOMBERG SAMPLER Lots more at http://www.jonlomberg.com/artwork.html ORIGINAL ART NUDE 9” x 12” pencil on paper $50 INTELLIGENT LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE 8” x 10” pen on “parchment” paper $50 SOLD but a free signed print will be included with your order of any other artwork. RAVI SHANKAR 11” x 14” watercolor and pen on paper $250 VIKING SANDBOX 8” x 11.5” marker on paper, signed $250 1976 Viking 1 lands on Mars. Jay Inge, a planetary cartographer works in the “sandbox” at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 1976. A full-size working model of the lander was used to mimic what the Viking 1 lander on Mars was actually doing. I sketched Jay as he used rocks and sand to create a facsimile of the actual terrain surrounding the lander, pebble by pebble… HONAUNAU BAY CORAL 9” x 12” acrylic on canvas board $300 ACORN (from THE COSMIC CONNECTION by CARL SAGAN) 8” x 9.5” signed original silk-screen print on paper $80 Acorn was drawn in Boston in 1971 before I met Carl, who asked to use it in his 1973 book. I was learning silk-screening from my friend Tomas Dominguez. We made by hand few silkscreen prints on paper and plexiglass. These were all sold long ago, but a couple have turned up. Very rare item. ICELAND SPACE ART WORKSHOP 9” x 12” colored pencils on black paper $130 Here's a quartet of approx. 9” x 12” pencil sketches on black paper, inspired by the notion of a huge dark matter halo surrounding the Milky Way Galaxy. Sure, a roughly spherical, soft-edged cloud is the safe and easy way to go. But I tried to envision stranger geometries and spatial distribution of the utterly mysterious dark matter component of the Universe. Set of 4 $200 DEATH VALLEY SPACE ART WORKSHOP 6” x 9” acrylic on illustration board $200 Distant Encounters 13” x 17” pencil on paper $300 Pencil sketch for cover art. The paper is actually whiter, but I had to adjust the contrast to show the background Milky Way and stars. Distant Encounters 13” x 17” Acrylic on paper $1000 Design for the cover of the book by Mark Washburn. Saturn and Titan, with the Voyager scan platform containing the cameras. The second Voyager is in the distance, with the Golden Record shown as a gold dot on the spacecraft. Jupiter and its moons and ring are in the distance, beyond them the Sun, Earth and Milky Way. DANCE OF INTERSTELLAR MOLECULES From COMET by Sagan and Druyan 28” x 20” framed in black metal and matte board acrylic on black coated stock. $1000 This double page spread on p.150-151 of the Sagan book. It shows the interstellar molecules that had been detected as of 1986. The shiny black background makes the colors really pop, and apart from the meaning, I like it purely as a graphic. The book labels the molecules (small picture above). The art does not have them. PRINTS ART PRINTS FROM NASA’S VOYAGER GOLDEN RECORD These images were designed and/or drawn by Jon Lomberg for the legendary Golden Record attached to both Voyager spacecraft, bound for the stars. Each print is 16” x 12” made individually on heavyweight art paper and hand- signed. 1-3 prints $40 per print 3-6 prints $35 per print 7 or more $30 per print Jon Lomberg and Voyager Record, Jet Propulsion Lab, 1981 VOYAGER RECORD COVER This diagram on the cover of the Golden Record was devised by Frank Drake drawn by Jon Lomberg. Its purpose is to explain how to ETs how to play the disk and decode the video signals to create pictures. A correctly drawn circle, the first image recorded in the sequence is shown. With an estimated lifetime of 1000 million years, Lomberg’s drawing may become the longest lasting work of human art of all time. Here is a chance to own a print of this drawing signed by the artist! 116 STORYBOARDS FROM CONTACT These laser prints are from my first-generation digital files, which is as close as you can get to an “original” in digital art. Each print is individually signed. The first two sequences are from the famous opening animation From CONTACT. The third is a very brief scene during the Wormhole sequence. The wormhole mouth in this sequence is based on detailed work with astrophysicist Kip Thorne about the visual appearance of wormhole moths. This was dropped from the final animation, because the Director preferred the inaccurate “water down a drain” look, which better describes an accretion disk around a black hole than a wormhole, which is a different thing entirely. 11” x 11” print, signed $25 set of three storyboards $50 signed VIKING 75 poster 18” X 24” $30 plus $10 shipping Commissioned by NASA’s Goddard Spaceflight Center to mark the 1975 launch of the first spacecraft to land on Mars Approaching the Milky Way Jon Lomberg was chief artist for Carl Sagan's television series COSMOS, and designed most of the animation sequences, including the long trip through the universe that opened the series. This is a scene from that animation, in which the traveler approaches the Milky Way Galaxy, just before diving down into the disc and flying to Earth. Photolithograph, 17" x 23". Limited edition of 950, signed and numbered. Normally $75 SPECIAL OFFER $35 plus shipping COSMIC EVOLUTION The formation and history of Earth set against the galaxy. Earth on the far right is bright with radio sources, including the Frank Drake transmission from Arecibo, while undetected signals from ET bathe the Earth. Set of three 8” x 10” prints with Signed on front, explanation on back $40 .
