SECRETARY’S REPORT SEASON 2018/2019 Ladies and Gentleman Another Season has passed and I again take pleasure in presenting my Annual Report, my 23rd as General Secretary of your Competition. In a Season, that in the main has been uneventful once again. Congratulations to Gas Recreation, Premier Division Champions and K.O Cup Winners, completing the double yet again. Runners Up in the Premier Division, Tiptree Heath, who had a double promotion last year. No relegation will take place this year owing to the League size being increased to 18 teams. Divisional leaders included Flitch United in Division One, with Tiptree Engaine in second spot. Stanway Pegasus, who joined us this Season, just losing 1 game, were Division Two Champions. They did not play 5 matches owing to their opponents having team problems. Runners Up in this Division were another new side, AFC Sudbury. Moving on to Division Three, a Club returning to the League, Gosfield United becoming winners. Runners Up were Great Bentley Res. Our own Cup Finals were well contested. In the League K.O Cup played at Brantham Athletic FC. Gas Recreation beat Stanway Pegasus 2-1, in a hard fort game, Gas Recreation finished the match with 9 men. 8 The Reserve K.O Cup final was between Alresford Colne Rangers Res. and Great Bentley Res. played at Little Oakley FC. Great Bentley winning 2-0, with several players being booked in the last few minutes of the Match. The Tommy Thompson Cup Final took place at Stanway Rovers FC between Stanway Pegasus and AFC Sudbury. Yet again a hard, fast battle between the two new Clubs with AFC Sudbury winning 2-1. As always the Competition would like to thank the Clubs who staged all of our Cup Finals: Little Oakley FC, Brantham Athletic FC and Stanway Rovers FC. As always fantastic hospitality was shown to all teams, League Officials and club supporters. Many Thanks. Once again thank you to all League Members who were present at our finals and to those who presented trophies. As in previous years all Match programmes were produced by Mark Kettlety of Billericay. The three Cup Finals were very well supported and financially a great success and a credit to the Competition. County Cup honours eluded the Border League Clubs this Season but who knows 2019/2020 may see Essex & Suffolk County Cups come our way – the potential is there. The Representative team did not play any fixtures this Season, not for the want of not trying. An application has been made to play in the F.A. Inter League Cup for this coming Season. To our Match Officials – Referee’s and Assistant Referee’s, your time and effort is greatly appreciated and we understand that you have the toughest job of all. It is sad to record the withdrawal of Holland FC A, leaving our ranks before a ball was kicked. Also leaving at the end of the Season are Long Melford Res. 9 May all newly elected Clubs enjoy many Seasons in the best Competition of its class in the area. Once again we achieved a complete whole League and Cup fixture programme. We as a League should be very proud of this. In conclusion: I record my grateful thanks to the Officers and League Council Members, who assist in running this Competition. Also to all Club Officials for your support, this helps us to maintain our status as a respected Competition in Essex & Suffolk. Finally to conclude, this is my final report as your Secretary. I have decided to stand down and let someone else take the reigns.
