2nd Meeting of Ukrainian-German City Network within the framework of the project “National Urban Development Policy in Ukraine” Dates: 23-26 April, 2018 Hosting city: Kyiv Venue: “IZONE” Creative Hub The German-Ukrainian city network provides an informal group for consultation, peer-to-peer learning and best practices exchange comprised of representatives of German and Ukrainian municipalities in charge of urban development and urban planning. The aim of forming the city network is to work on concrete urban planning projects in the respective cities and to provide collegial advice in their orientation towards integrated and sustainable urban development. The network currently unites representatives of 7 cities: Leipzig, Nuremberg, Osnabruck, (Germany) and Kharkiv, Kyiv, Lviv and Mykolaiv (Ukraine). Summary After the inauguration meeting of the network held in Lviv, it was decided to organize the second meeting in a workshop format in order to allow members of the network to present selected urban development projects planned or currently implemented in their respective cities and to provide room for discussing challenges and opportunities related to those projects. As hosting city, the city of Kyiv had an opportunity to present its urban development projects through site visits organized during the workshop. Two sites visits were organized to demonstrate the following projects: 1 - ‘Khreshchatyk as a main street’ project vision (walking tour followed by presentation and collegial consultation in the premises of the Urban Planning and Architecture Department of the Kyiv City Hall); - ‘New Kontraktova Sq. – Kyiv’s Living Room’ – ongoing project of reconstruction of main square of Podil historical neighbourhood and adjacent streets that implies change of traffic organization scheme and pedestrianization of the square and adjacent area (walking tour followed by presentations and collegial consultations in the premises of Podil city state administration). The next city network meeting and workshop will be held from the 12th until the 15th of September, 2018 in Leipzig. In addition, all participants will take part in the XII Federal Congress on National Urban Development Policy in Frankfurt to share their experiences.
