Project Officer – Seethakathi NGO Kilakarai – 623 517 Ramnad District PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY I started my teaching career in 1987 in my Alma Mater Avinashilingam University Coimbatore, moved to Kilakarai in 1988, had good opportunities to develop my skills in teaching, administration and research. Under my leadership as Principal since 1992 the college has been improving by leaps and bounds to attain the autonomous status in the year 2005.The institution was Re-assessed with 2.78/4 point scale during January 2013.The college now has five research centers - in Commerce, Computer Science, Home Science, Mathematics and English. The college has grown and transformed to cater to the needs of poor women around the college and empowerment of women of this locale has created a good impact in the educational uplift. This is the only autonomous college under Alagappa University enjoying its autonomy with full academic freedom to exercise in its true sense to meet the local and global challenges. Our graduates and post graduates are employed in MNCs in India and abroad and also in private and public sector. I am proud and happy that since two and half decades, this college has brought a sea change in the educational uplift of the women minorities of this area The all round development of this area through higher education of women in its true sense imparted through this college is obviously visualized. I am an active researcher, currently guiding my research scholars in bringing out an alternative technology to produce palm sugar in a short duration, with 100% purity, where as the conventional method which has impurities and time consuming. The outcome of the study has contributed to design a “palm sugar extractor” to help the rural people involved in palm candy production. The findings of the study also will contribute to increase the production of palm sugar with value added properties as it is an alternative natural sweetener for diabetic patients. My institution has achieved “Academic Excellence” under my guidance and leadership. As a part of corporate social responsibility we have created strong linkages with our neighborhood and community, through our “Seethakathi NGO” approved by the Tamil Nadu Women Development Corporation, Chennai since 2002. We have formed 858 self help groups comprising 12,012 womenfolk, who are under our care for social and economic uplift in our backward region; As a Project officer of Seethakathi NGO, I have conducted many programmes for 2000 SHG women on capacity building, Disaster management, entrepreneurship development, palm product making, dry fish processing and mushroom cultivation, seaweed farming, arecanut leaf product making, Skill training programmes, Consumer Rights, Human Rights, and so on. Bank Loans were disbursed to the extent of ` 122.37 million (INR) to the SHGs Rs.10 lakhs was given as interest free loan to the Self Help Women for income generation activities. Most of the women of the SHGs have been fine tuned to become successful entrepreneurs. Other significant activities motivated by the NGO and undertaken by the SHG Women are Prevention of dowry, alcohol consumption, and caste creed problems etc. SHG participated in various awareness programmes launched by the Government like Family planning, eye donation and blood donation camps, AIDs awareness and so on. Free maternity camps and eye camps were organized, along with Yousuf Zulaikha Hospital, a sister concern of our Trust. Seaweed cultivation training programmes are initiated for the welfare of the coastal population, affected by Tsunami. I managed the ETRP [Emergency Tsunami Relief Project], Govt. of Tamil Nadu through DRDA as Project Co-ordinator. Our Seethakathi NGO liaised with the Government in constructing 5000 houses in the Coastal Region of Ramnad District In recognition of my outstanding services towards Welfare of Women the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Selvi J Jayalalitha has given the meritorious Award "The Best Social Worker Award for Women's Welfare on the 66th Independence Day celebration at St. George Fort on 15th August 2012 with a 10gm Gold Medal and a citation. I am a member of Girls' committee on education in the National Commission for Minorities Educational Institutions (NCMEI), New Delhi. For the first time, I served in this committee during 2007-09. The committee was reconstituted during 2010 and again I was nominated for the second time for a period of two years from 2010-12. I involved myself in planning, promotion and popularization of various programmes of Girls' committee on education by NCMEI, New Delhi during the third term (2012-2014) From 2008 to till date, I am serving as Joint Secretary in the Ramnad District Muslim Women Aid Society to help the poor and needy downtrodden Muslim women under the leadership of District Collector as Chairman. I have raised funds to the tune of Rs.8 lakhs through memberships as patrons and donations for this society since 2009. The distribution of funds for the needy women was done during the month of Ramalaan. Our objective of this society is to provide scholarships for education, medical help and for starting micro enterprises. 1616 downtrodden Muslim women beneficiaries received `. 90,67,500/- through Ramnad District Muslim Women Aid Society. In our Institution, Thassim Beevi Educational Endowment Scholarship [TBEES] Private Scholarship Scheme was initiated by me, in which the Secretary of the College as Chairman to assist poor minority girls enrolled in various departments of the institution. This scheme has brought a sea change in improving the educational lot of poor Muslim Girls in our Region. Every year we disburse 20 lakhs worth private scholarships in the name of TBEES scholarship to the meritorious girls who deserve scholarships. I am involved in District level committees for social uplift and as advisory committee member of NSS, RRC, YRC and NSS activities of our University area. During January 2010, I have initiated and started the IGNOU Community College to promote inclusive education for the school dropouts of our region.
