This practical guide is addressed to incoming students and staff who intend to visit the University of the Aegean within the framework of Erasmus+. It provides basic information about practical issues for studies/teaching/training at the UAegean and your stay in Greece. The UAegean was founded in 1984, aiming to introduce new approaches in higher education in Greece and worldwide and to promote regional development. Situated on six picturesque islands in the Aegean Archipelago, the UAegean offers a unique natural, cultural and human environment for modern studies in the ancient cradle of knowledge. In less than forty years, the UAegean has evolved into an international research oriented University offering 17 undergraduate (BA or BSc) and 43 postgraduate (MA, MSc or MBA) programmes in modern interdisciplinary thematic areas such as environment, communication systems, cultural informatics, business administration, product design, food and nutritional sciences, education design and Mediterranean studies. In addition, the UAegean has established joined international postgraduate programmes (Biodiversity, Environmental Policy and Management, European Integration) as well as joined PhD programmes in a wide range of thematic areas. Wishing you a fruitful Erasmus+ Study at UAegean APPLYING AND ENROLLING IN THE UAEGEAN Before arrival… Students who wish to study or carry out a traineeship at the University of the Aegean should send their application to the UAegean Erasmus+ Office along with all documents required. Humanities.pdf gr/documents/internationalMovement/5.%20student%20 statutory%20declaration.pdf) • A Bank document (verifying the bank’s SWIFT/BIC number and IBAN). • A copy of passport • A copy of certificate of basic health insurance and a complementary private insurance (for the case of repatriation and specific intervention), copy of civil liability insurance and copy of personal accident insurance (details about insurances can be found in the Grant Agreement) • A copy of Visa (if needed) • A Receipt of tickets payment (copy) First days at the UAegean… Upon arrival at the University of the Aegean, Erasmus students should register at the Secretariat of their host Department. Contact details for the UAegean Departments are listed on the last pages of this guide. After the registration, they will receive the relevant certificate and the e-codes to access University email accounts. The Certificate of registration confirms the first date of their presence at the University. Furthermore, students will be given instructions on how to acquire an Academic ID Card which offers them discount on transport tickets and free entrance to cultural sites, museums, etc. In order to apply for a Library member card students should submit the following documentation either to the University Library branch or to the Secretariat of their Department: • A complete special application form for registration which can be obtained from the Library branch or can be downloaded from the Library’s website • An Academic ID card • A recent passport-size colored photograph Both the Academic ID Card and library member card are issued free of charge and are strictly personal. WINTER SEMESTER EXAMS January September February Welcome Days Welcome Days for all incoming Erasmus students are arranged in the beginning of each academic semester on UAegean islands. Students will be informed about the welcome dates by the Erasmus+ office via email. During welcome days, Erasmus+ students are informed about academic issues, as well as everyday life and cultural / athletic activities. Erasmus Students Network (ESN) Aegean members will also have a presentation during welcome days. Changes in the Study Programme (Learning Agreement) can be requested either by the student, or the Sending Receiving Institution within five weeks from the beginning of each semester. The final learning agreement should be agreed upon and signed by the afore mentioned parties within two weeks time following the request. Changes concerning the duration of the mobility can be requested by the student at least one month before the end date that is stated on the agreements. Important Notice: The student should inform both the Secretariat of the UAegean Department and the Erasmus+ Office about any changes in the Learning Agreement. Academic Calendar Each academic year is divided in two semesters. The winter semester begins in October and ends in January. The spring semester begins in February and ends in June. Examinations are held at the end of each academic semester. Students have the opportunity to repeat the examinations on courses they have failed in, during both winter and spring semester in the exam period in September. (S)He will be happy to provide advice on academic issues (for example, possible changes in the learning agreement) during the period of studies at the UAegean. A list of the Erasmus+ Departmental Coordinators is available at the Erasmus website (http://erasmus.aegean. gr/en_GB/basic-info/aegean-erasmus-departmental-coordinators/). Students can meet the Erasmus+ Coordinators during their office hours. Before departure… Exchange students will be provided with a certificate by the Library stating that they have returned all borrowed books. In addition, they will receive their departure certificate by the Department Secretariat confirming the last date of their studies at the UAegean. Important notice: ICM participants will be requested to complete the EU survey received by email one month before the end of their mobility period. After returning to your home Institution… The transcript of records will be sent both to students and Athens the Sending Institution. Important notice: ICM participants should send original boarding passes and ferry tickets to the UAegean Erasmus+ Office, after their arrival at their home institutions.
