A 35-goal season in 2020-21 would see Ovechkin pass Hockey Hall of Famers Mike Gartner (708 in 1,432 GP), Phil Esposito (717 in 1,282 GP) and Marcel Dionne (731 in 1,771 in 1,348 GP) and tie Brett Hull (741 in 1,269 GP) for fourth place in League history. * Ovechkin (775 in 1,288 GP) has 775 career goals including the postseason, the seventh-highest such total in NHL history. He needs 25 to become the sixth player in League history with a combined total of 800 or more, in which he would join Wayne Gretzky (1,016 in 1,695 GP), Gordie Howe (869 in 1,924 GP), Hull (844 in 1,471 GP), Jaromir Jagr (844 in 1,941 GP) and Mark Messier (803 in 1,992 GP). Power-Play Goals * Ovechkin’s 260 career power-play goals in the regular season are the third-most in NHL history (since 1933-34 when goals by type were officially tracked), five back of Hull (265) for second place. The League’s all-time leader is Dave Andreychuk with 274 – Ovechkin has scored at least 15 power-play goals, the amount needed to pass Andreychuk, in 11 of his 15 NHL seasons. Game-Winning Goals * Ovechkin has scored 110 career game-winning goals during the regular season and is tied with Hull and Teemu Selanne for fifth place on the NHL’s all-time list. Ovechkin is one game-winner ahead of Patrick Marleau (109) for the most among active players. * Twenty-three of Ovechkin’s 110 career game-winning goals have been scored in overtime, the most in League history. Ovechkin has tallied eight of his regular-season overtime goals since the three-on-three format was introduced in 2015- 16, which trails five players for the most in the NHL over that span. Multi-Goal Games & Hat Tricks * Ovechkin’s 145 career multi-goal games and 27 career hat tricks in the regular season are the fifth- and eighth-most in League history, respectively. He scored four hat tricks in 2019-20, including three over a span of six games played from Jan. 16 – Feb. 4. 30-, 40- & 50-Goal Seasons * Ovechkin has reached the 30-goal mark in each of his 15 NHL seasons, including scoring 32 in 2012-13 when teams contested a 48-game schedule. His 15 career 30-goal campaigns trail only Gartner (17) for the most in League history – Ovechkin’s 15 consecutive 30-goal seasons are tied with Gartner (1979-80–1993-94) and Jagr (1991-92–2006-07) for the longest such run by an NHL player. * Ovechkin’s 11 career 40-goal seasons are the second-highest such total in League history, one back of Gretzky (12). Ovechkin has reached the 40-goal mark in each of his last three campaigns. * Ovechkin’s eight career 50-goal seasons trail only Gretzky and Mike Bossy, who own the most in League history (9). * * * * * 4 CLIMBING ALL-TIME NHL LISTS SKATERS Games * San Jose Sharks C Patrick Marleau (1,723) needs nine games to pass Ron Francis (1,731) for fourth place on the NHL’s all-time games played list. If Marleau plays 45 games, he would surpass Jaromir Jagr (1,733; 3rd), Mark Messier (1,756; 2nd) and Gordie Howe (1,767; 1st) for the most in NHL history. * Toronto Maple Leafs C Joe Thornton (1,636) needs four games to pass Dave Andreychuk (1,639) for eighth place on the NHL’s all-time games played list.
