Roger P. Barton, (23 Dec 1947 – 23 Mar 2011), Perry County Times, Monday, April 4, 2011 Roger P. Barton, 63, of Harrisburg died Tuesday, March 23, 2011. He was born Dec. 23, 1947 in Harrisburg to the late Warren H. Barton and Jean Spahr of Duncannon. He grew up in Duncannon and was a 1965 graduate of Susquenita High School. During those years, he played baseball and basketball, which carried through the rest of his life both as a player and then as a coach of local girls’ softball, Association of Retarded Citizens basketball coach, and, most recently, umpiring for the PIAA. He was a 1969 graduate of the Smeal College of Business at Penn State University, and served as president of the Kappa chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity and Interfraternity Council; and a member of Kappa Alumni Board and PSU Alumni Association. After graduation, he was a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, retiring as director of Program operations in 2007 after 37 1/2 years of service, awarded the 2007 Pennsylvania Rehabilitation Association Charles Eby Administrator Award in recognition of his exemplary leadership and devotion to individuals with disabilities, and elected president of PRA in 2011; and was one of the original owners of Roxy’s Cafe, Harrisburg. Surviving are his wife Jorja (Hare) Barton; a daughter, Emily Arnold; two grandchildren, Jacob and Haylee; a son, Scott of San Francisco, Calif.; and a brother, Robert W. of Harrisburg. A memorial service was held March 26 in Hoover Funeral Home, Hershey. Memorial contributions may be made to Pennsylvania Rehabilitation Association, c/o Carl Marshall, 2304 Bellevue Road, Harrisburg 17104, which will provide scholarships to students in the vocational rehabilitation field. www.theperryhistorians.org .
