FISU 2017 WINTER UNIVERSIADE 2016 HOCKEY CANADA DEVELOPMENT TEAM WOMEN’S HOCKEY STAFF CALL FOR APPLICATIONS Event: Hockey Canada Development Camp, Calgary, Alberta (“Team CIS”) Date: August 5 – 14, 2016 Event: 2017 Winter Universiade, Almaty, Kazakhstan (“Team Canada”) Date: January 29th to February 8th, 2017 (anticipated travel dates January 25th to February 9th, 2017) Details: Team CIS/Team Canada will consist of 20-22 players and 6 staff (Team Leader, Head Coach, Two Assistant Coaches, Therapist and Equipment Manager) Team staff should be prepared to attend both events, if possible. Prospective coaches must clearly indicate whether they intend to apply to either one or both. In addition, the team leader and coaches will be expected to maintain regular contact with members of the team and staff between May 2016 and the February 2017 event. Funding: This opportunity is a self-funded event. Administration and organization of the trip will be facilitated through CIS International Programs. Positions Available: There are six (6) staff positions to be filled for the team: 1 Team Leader, 1 Head Coach, 2 Assistant Coaches, 1 Therapist and 1 Equipment Manager. Team Leader a) Pre-Universiade – Coordinate all aspects of team operations, in close consultation with CIS, including document collection, payments and team uniforms. b) On-Site – Responsible for team operations and administrative duties related to team participation at the Universiade. c) Post-Universiade – Complete and submit post-Universiade report to CIS and CIS Women’s Hockey Coaches Association. d) Previously demonstrated strong administrative, organizational and communication skills. e) Currently employed in a Canadian Interuniversity Sport Institution (preferred) f) Experience working with a high performance hockey team (preferred) g) Bilingual (preferred) Head Coach a) Previous head coaching experience as a CIS hockey coach. b) NCCP level 3 coaching certification or high performance I certified. a) Bilingual (preferred). Assistant Coaches a) Previous experience as a CIS hockey coach. b) NCCP level 3 coaching certification or high performance I certified. c) Bilingual (preferred). Therapist a) Current certified member of the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association (CATA) or Sport Physiotherapy Canada (SPC). b) Currently employed in a Canadian Interuniversity Sport Institution (preferred). c) Experience working with a high performance hockey team (preferred). d) Bilingual (preferred). Equipment Manager a) Experience working with a university hockey team or equivalent. b) Experience with maintaining, repairing, laundry and inventory control for all team equipment. c) Bilingual (preferred). d) Ability to sharpen skates. e) Ability to work as part of a team with an athletic therapist in coordination and organization of the team and therapy rooms. f) Ability to work long hours as required to support the team. Demonstrated experience with evaluating high performance players (for coaching staff) 10. Written endorsement of your institute’s Athletic Director Applicants for these positions: 1. Must be committed to providing a positive international sporting experience for the athletes of Team CIS/Team Canada. 2. Must be active in sport at a CIS institution (as a women’s hockey coach for all coaching applicants). 3. Must be able and willing to pay the full costs of participation, including preparatory events and camps. Total cost is estimated at $2,000 plus travel for Team CIS and $4,000 for Team Canada (final costs to be determined). Coaches may apply for a partial subsidy through the CIS Coaches Association. 4. Must be available to participate at the Hockey Canada Development Camp and the Universiade (both are preferred). 5. Must be willing to participate in event organization, including liaising with Team CIS and Team Canada players prior to the event to ensure that they are properly prepared for both events.
