Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications. OUR CURRICULUM Inquiry-based instruction and Blended Learning (introduced as a separate class in 2017) Students in all grades are presented opportunities on a weekly basis to work with, solve, and report out on a specific challenge Breakthrough curriculum inspires students to read, write and argue like scientists to gain a better understanding of the world, as they gain the skills needed to master the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) Emphasis on bridging inside and outside of school STEM learning opportunities Host a Family STEM Night (three years running) ACHIEVEMENTS 2018 Lauralton Hall Science Olympics - First Place in 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade 2018 and 2017: First Place in the Connecticut State Science and Engineering Fair, Second year in a row in Engineering and Technology Division School hosted "STEM Night " Challenge for students and families FACULTY HIGHLIGHTS Members of GE Foundation for Education, National Science Teacher Association Completed courses at Kennedy Space Center and Cornell School of Astrophysics Experts in Force and Motion, Physics, Astrophysics, Acceleration, Properties of Light and other fields Develop lesson plans for the State of Connecticut in partnership with the Next Generation Science Standards Trained in Robotics 33 SOUTH AVENUE NEW CANAAN, CT FOLLOW US 203.966.0786 WWW.SASNCCT.ORG High Schools Attended by Our Alumni - Academy of IT & Engineering - Lauralton Hall - Brunswick School - Miss Porter's School - Brien McMahon, Global Studies Program - New Canaan High School - Canterbury School - Norwalk High School - Cheshire Academy - Notre Dame High School - Choate Rosemary Hall - Regis High School - Darien High School - Ridgefield High School - Eaglebrook School - Sacred Heart Academy - Fairfield College Preparatory School - School of the Holy Child - Fordham Preparatory School - St. Joseph High School - Greens Farms Academy - St. Luke's School - Hopkins School - Trinity Catholic High School - Iona Preparatory - Wilton High School - King School Colleges Attended by Our Alumni - Academy of IT & Engineering - Johns Hopkins University - Babson College - Providence College - Boston College - Northeastern University - Bucknell University - Rutgers University - Carnegie Mellon University - Sacred Heart University - The Catholic University of America - Salve Regina University - College of the Holy Cross - St. Lawrence - Dartmouth University - Trinity College - Dickinson College - University of Colorado - Elon University - University of Pennsylvania - Fairfield University - University of Southern California - Fordham University - Villanova University - Georgetown University - Worcester Polytechnic Institute - Gettysburg College - Yale University - Harvard University We Learn & Grow ... I see them going through life making great choices and being able to manage through any struggles that may come their way. They are confident young adults that continue to succeed every day personally, spiritually and academically. This all began at St. Aloysius. - Katherine, Parent of Current & Graduated Students We were particularly drawn to the impressive Kindergarten program. The atmosphere was nurturing, fun, and impressively academic. The children were taught accountability, independence, and love of our Catholic faith from the first day. They are able to develop relationships with students from grades 1-8 through playground interactions, school mass, after school programs, and our unique buddy system. While there is a common faith, the overall community offers some healthy diversity with a multitude of perspectives from other towns and demographics. We found that St. Aloysius appropriately challenged our children academically and they were very well prepared when it was time to move on to new schools. - Gretchen, Parent of Current & Graduated Students The children learn to be kind to one another: And it’s not that they learn to be kind just for the sake of being kind, they learn to be kind because Jesus asks us to love one another. I think there a vast difference between being taught to be kind just because “it’s the right thing to do”, and being taught to be kind, because it’s what Jesus asks of us. - Katie, Current Parent I have been a student here since Kindergarten, and have seen this school flourish through the years. This school provides an environment of learning where resources are abundant. Our faculty is very devoted and inspiring. Our teachers are funny, kind, and attentive to each student's needs. This makes learning fun while achieving academic excellence. Going back to Kindergarten, I have some amazing memories from my years here. In Kindergarten, we had numerous shows and events (that included our families) to look forward to including the Family Feast, the Advent pageant, the spring show and of course, graduation, where my mom cried a river. - Andrew, 8th Grade Class of 2018 33 SOUTH AVENUE NEW CANAAN, CT FOLLOW US 203.966.0786 WWW.SASNCCT.ORG.
