COOPERATIVES ALL OVER THE COUNTRY GOING THE EXTRA MILE TO SERVE THEIR MEMBERS AND COMMUNITIES AMIDST COVID-19 PANDEMIC: REPORTS FROM REGION 11 #CoopAgainstCOVID19 REGIONAL REPORT ON COOPERATIVE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 DAVAO DEL SUR1 Cooperatives in the Province of Davao del Sur, through the Provincial Cooperatives Development Council (PCDC), raised a total fund of Eighty-Five Thousand Six Hundred pesos (Php 85,600.00). The cash amounted to Fifty Five Thousand Six Hundred pesos (Php 55,600.00) while the cheques amounted to Thirty Thousand pesos (Php 30,000.00). This fund will be given to RCDC XI as a unified donation to the frontliner-beneficiaries of the region. Other than this, some cooperatives have already extended assistance to their members, the community and frontliners during the on-going national health crisis. They are the following: Tagum Cooperative – Digos Office The Digos Branch of Tagum Cooperative distributed face masks, water and biscuits to frontliners in Digos City. Every member was also given Php 250.00 as assistance. 1 data provided by the PCDC of Davao del Sur/CCDO-Digos City 1 | Page Free Planters Multi-Purpose Cooperative (FPMPC) FPMPC distributed free meals to the frontliners of the Medical Center of Digos Cooperative (MCDC), City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) of Digos, Task Force Toril of Davao City, those manning the entry and exit points at Balutakay, Hagonoy, and other frontliners. They also delivered relief goods to the residents of Brgy. Biao, Digos City. This effort was successively done last April 21-23, 2020 with a total amount of Php 35,000.00 disbursed as assistance to their community. Tortuga Multi-Purpose Cooperative (TMPC) Last April 2-4, 2020, TMPC officers distributed 25 kilos of rice to all the 290 members and employees of the cooperative. On April 22, 2020, they donated rice and grocery items to 30 guards assigned at Tortuga Valley Plantation Inc. On April 23, 2020, they distributed snack items worth Php 20,000.00 at all entry and exit checkpoints in Digos City. 2 | Page Digos Market Vendors Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DMVMPC) In order to assist their members in this time of crisis, DMVMPC officers distributed on April 14-15, April 20-22, and April 27-30,2020, five (5) kilos of rice to each member of the cooperative. This amounted to a total of Php1.3 Million. LYN Development Cooperative The officers of Lyn Development Cooperative distributed relief packs to all residents of Brgy. Guihing, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur which amounted to a total of Php 107,000.00 on April 9-11 and April 25, 2020. 3 | Page PNP BAKADECO Multi-Purpose Cooperative The cooperative distributed snacks to their members who were also frontliners on April 1, 2020. There were 146 beneficiaries who gained from this effort, which amounted to Php 5,376.00. South East Mindanao Transport Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SEMTRAMPCO) The officers of SEMTRAMPCO purchased eighteen (18) sacks of rice, which were distributed to their one hundred seventy-seven (177) members last April 25, 2020. Tagabuli Health Consumers Cooperative (THCC) The officers of THCC distributed free snacks to sixty (60) frontliners who were stationed at three different checkpoint posts in Barangay Tagabuli, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur last April 21, 2020. This amounted to One Thousand pesos (Php 1,000.00). 4 | Page BCS – Credit Cooperative The cooperative donated 25 sacks of rice and Php 30,000.00 cheque to the residents of Digos City through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) last April 30. DAVAO CITY Biao Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (BARBCO)2 The Biao Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative repacked the assorted grocery items which will be sold at an affordable price in the different barangays of Davao City . On April 22, 2020, BARBCO, as part of the KADIWA On Wheels’ Team, sold assorted grocery items at Camp Katitipan. This activity was organized by the Department of Agrarian Reform-XI and the Department of Agriculture-XI. 2 Contents provided by the cooperative 5 | Page On April 23, 2020, BARBCO also sold assorted grocery items at Talomo District, Davao City. They did the same on April 24, 2020 at Baguio District, Davao City. On April 25, 2020, BARBCO continued to sell assorted grocery items at Maa, Davao City. 6 | Page BARBCO also assisted the local government unit in the food pack distribution within Davao City. DAVAO DEL NORTE Almaca Banana Growers Multi-Purpose Cooperative Almaca Banana Growers Multi-Purpose Cooperative, a cooperative located in Carmen, Davao del Norte, released 25kilograms of rice to their coop members on 27 April 2020. Source: Facebook page of Chona Segutier Kapalong Transport Cooperative (KATRANSCO) Kapalong Transport Cooperative (KATRANSCO) provided relief goods to its members (operators and drivers) and some drivers and conductors, non- members of the coop, in their community last April 2020. 7 | Page Women Sunrise Multipurpose Cooperative The Brgy. Government of Sto. Niño posted on their Facebook page last April 15 that they are grateful to receive goods from Women Sunrise Multipurpose Cooperative. Niño FB Page Central TADECO Agrarian Reform Multi-Purpose Cooperative (CTARBEMPCO) Central TADECO Agrarian Reform Multi-Purpose Cooperative (CTARBEMPCO) provided cash assistance to their members who are living at Tibungol, other parts of Panabo City, and the Municipality of Carmen. Kapalong Public Elementary Teachers and Retirees Cooperative (KAPETERCO) Kapalong Public Elementary Teachers and Retirees Cooperative (KAPETERCO) donated PPEs to Davao del Norte District Hospital, Kapalong Zone, on April 29, 2020. The total allocation of Php 400,000.00 was sourced from their Community Development Fund. The cooperative also donated Php 15,000.00 worth of groceries for frontliners in San Roque, New Sambog, Sto. Niño and Sta. Felomina. Diamond Individual Farmers Cooperative (DIFCO) Diamond Farms Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DARBMUPCO) Diamond Individual Farmers Cooperative (DIFCO), together with Diamond Farms Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DARBMUPCO), distributed relief goods to frontliners, local residents and members last April 2020. Mindanao Banana Producers Multi Purpose Cooperative (MINDCO) The Mindanao Banana Producers Multi Purpose Cooperative (MINDCO), of Carmen, Davao del Norte distributed relief goods to their community last April 2020. 9 | Page DAVAO DE ORO New Bataan Water Services Cooperative (NEBAWASCO) The New Bataan Water Services Cooperative (NEBAWASCO) provided goods to their members last April 2020. Bongabong Agrarian Reform Cooperative (BARC) The Bongabong Agrarian Reform Cooperative (BARC) donated 1,237 foodpacks, provided grocery items and 25 kgs. of rice, and released partial interest on share capital and patronage refund amounting to Php 15,000.00. Maragusan Multipurpose Cooperative (MAMPCO) Maragusan Multipurpose Cooperative (MAMPCO) donated meat and rice to checkpoint frontliners on April 2020. 10 | Page North Skilled Workers Cooperative (NSWC) North Skilled Workers Cooperative (NSWC) utilized their Community Development Fund for their members, staff, and frontliners. DAVAO ORIENTAL Davao Oriental Market Multipurpose Cooperative (DOMMUPCO) The Davao Oriental Market Multipurpose Cooperative (DOMMUPCO) provided rice assistance to all employees and officers on April 6, 2020 at Mati City, Davao Oriental, while the area was under the Community Quarantine. 11 | Page Municipal Employees of Mati Cooperative (MEMCO) Municipal Employees of Mati Cooperative (MEMCO) distributed foodpacks to LGU frontliners on April 16, 2020. Limbahan Small Coconut Farmers and Women Multipurpose Cooperative (LIMSCOFARMCO) Limbahan Small Coconut Farmers and Women Multipurpose Cooperative (LIMSCOFARMCO) donated food packs to the volunteers and frontliners on March 26, 2020. Camansi Multi Purpose Cooperative (CAMPCO) The Camansi Multi Purpose Cooperative (CAMPCO) from Camansi, Badas, Mati City, Davao Oriental, distributed half sacks of rice to its members on March 20, 2020. 12 | Page .
