Packing List For Climb Kilimanjaro This packing list is meant to help you decide what to bring and how to pack for your trip. You may not use all of the items on this list but you must be prepared for a wide variety of conditions. Most people carry a day pack while hiking and send their backpack with a porter. It is helpful if you pack your things in stuff stacks so weight can easily be distributed if necessary. Remember, new airline regulations require that each piece of baggage be 50 lb.. or less. Be sure to label your belongings. Space is limited so pack lightly. We recommend that you wear your hiking boots and bring the following items in your carryon luggage: • Prescription medications • Travel documents such as your passport (make copies and keep in two places) • Camera, or anything you can't replace before the trip • We strongly recommend that you leave expensive or irreplaceable items at home. CLOTHING, OUTERWEAR AND GEAR: __ Waterproof Jacket & Pants - Breathable material like Gortex is best. __ Pants - 1 pair of quick-dry or synthetic work best. __ Insulating Tops - 1 Heavy sweater or fleece jacket, 1 lighter top made of fleece or wool. __ Long Sleeve Shirt - For protection from bugs and sun. __ Long Underwear - Tops and bottoms made of polypropylene or other synthetic. No cotton. __ T-shirts (2-3 shirts, cotton is ok) __ Shorts (1-2 pair) __ Underwear (enough to make you happy) __ Mid-duty hiking boots that provide ankle support. Make sure they are broken in before the trip! . __ Shoes - To be used around cam, tennis shoes are good. __ Warm Socks - Wool or polypropylene are best, cotton will not keep you warm if wet (3-4 pair). __ Liner Socks - Thin sock liners made of polypropylene to keep feet dry and prevent blisters (2-3 pair). __ Sun Hat __ Warm Stocking Cap __ Gloves - Waterproof gloves or mittens with liners. © Wilderness Inquiry 2013 Printed 1/17/13 __ Water Bottle - Durable water bottle or canteen. One quart size is perfect. __ Flashlight or Headlamp - Bring extra batteries. __ Sunglasses - Polarized is preferable. __ Eye wear - If you wear prescription eye glasses or contact lenses, bring an extra set. __ Sleeping Bag - Synthetic or down fill sleeping bag rated to 0°F. (available in Tanzania for a small fee) __ Ground Pad - Ensolite ground pad or Therm-a-Rest inflatable type. (available in Tanzania for a small fee) __ Towel - Small and synthetic is best. __ Toiletries - Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, etc. __ Toilet paper - 1 zip-lock full, we'll have more to replenish your supply if necessary __ Sunscreen & Lip balm __ Prescription Medications __ Water purifying tablets/drops __ Bandanas - Used for a variety of things including bartering with local vendors! __ Money - You are responsible for souvenirs, alcoholic beverages, tips etc. (see below) __ ID, etc. - Passport and other ID. Make copies to put in your checked luggage. __ Day Pack - To hold items you'll want during the day like cameras and sunscreen. __ Backpack - Large internal or external frame pack to be carried by a porter __ Heavy-Duty Garbage Bags - One to keep your clothes dry inside your pack and one to cover the top of your pack.
