CHURCH & VILLAGE CRAWLEY DOWN JUNE / JULY 2018 FREE TO ALL A SUMMER JOURNEY This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: "A voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him....’” Matthew 3:3 John the Baptist was commissioned by God to prepare the way for the coming of Christ. He spent his life in the desert being pre- pared for this vocation. Before any great work can be done, preparations must be made. During this time of year families are preparing for holidays, they are planning for get-a-ways and time to spend with loved ones and friends. Rarely does anyone hop in a car or on a plane without some preparation. Where direction does God want each of us to take during this summer break? What personal pilgrimage might he want us to take? John the Baptist, in Matthew 3, was preaching and pro- claiming the message of hope of the Saviour to come. He had a strong sense of vocation and direction. The journey following vocation, like many aspects of Christian pilgrimage is a long and challenging one. In following God’s call, we are made very aware of the wider church and its heritage and sense of community. Also, we become very aware that it is through the mainly unsung ministry of so many, following their vocation in Christ, that the Church moves forward into the future. In reflection of that, here at All Saints, we continue to look towards that future journey and ways that we can be an active part of the Crawley Down commu- nity, whilst also giving thanks for the contribution of all those who have gone before. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for making my family and I so welcome over the last year. Have a great summer!
