Foreword (RIYAZ AHMAD BANDAY) Director General Economics and Statistics J&K State The Directorate of Economics and Statistics, J&K is a designated nodal agency for coordinating collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of data and integrated development of statistical system of the state. The data is presented in the shape of publication by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics and its agencies on regular basis. Joint Directorate of Evaluation & Statistics, Jammu is charged with the responsibility of collecting, compiling, analysis and dissemination of data in the shape of publication titled ”Regional Digest of Statistics” in respect of Jammu Division. The present edition of “Regional Digest of Statistics” pertains to the year 2015-16 and is 17th in the series. I place on record my appreciation for the co-operation extended by various departments for providing the requisite information to Regional Joint Director, Evaluation & Statistics, Jammu in time. It is hoped that current edition of “Regional Digest of Statistics” like its previous issues will be useful to the planners, policy makers, research scholars, and other data users. The efforts put in by the Regional Joint Director, Evaluation, Jammu and the staff associated, in bringing out this quality publication with updated statistical information in a time bound manner. Any suggestions from the readers/users for further improvement /refinement in the quality and content of the publication will be appreciated. Being an annual publication of this office, it is 17th in the series and every effort has been made to present the latest available information on various sectors of an economy at divisional level. Out of this conviction, the present publication like previous publications is divide into 32 chapters dealing practically with all the sectors of Jammu Division’s economy. I am highly hopeful that the present publication will be of immense value to the research scholars, data users in general and policy makers in particular, I firmly believe that the road to improvement is never ending. I shall look forward to and greatfully acknowledge all suggestions received for further improvement of this publication. I would like to congratulate and acknowledge the efforts put forth by Sh.
