However, the new league was a concept that had been discussed since the early 1990s with informal meetings and conference calls taking place until the league’s charter members announced they were seeking to form a new conference in July of 2010. The league’s nine charter members are listed above. Southern Nazarene University and Northwestern Oklahoma State University accepted provisional membership invitations in May of 2011. SNU was accepted into the NCAA membership process on July 11, 2011.
