From the Rector’s desk Dear Readers Welcome to our first 2018 edition. The 2018 academic year started in the best possible way with the college attaining good students performances in both NCV and Nated programmes. This boosted morale and enthusi- asm to do better for the College. In my opening address, I did share that 2018 is a year of implementation, together we will ensure that Elangeni TVET College becomes the College of choice. Plans for the Business Unit are at an advanced stages. I am pleased that as the institution we heed to the call of being self sustaining to generate revenue for the College. Part of the Business Unit is to forge strategic partnership with public sector, private sector, parastatals, community at large, especially SMME. This partnership are crucial as they play a role in shaping our student’s future in the job market and SMME. I would like to applaud my team that worked tirelessly in establishing part- nership with UIF which will contribute to skilling our nation, especially the youth. As the College it is our motto to improve relations both with internal and external stakeholders. We are also looking forward to the formation of the SRC which will be the mouth piece of our students. Let me further congratulate new students for joining Elangeni TVET family, and hope that they benefitted a lot during the induction programme at all our 8 Campuses. I would also like to applaud well co-ordinated induction by our Student sup- port service for ensuring participation of our social partners like SAPS, HEIADS and more. On that note allow me to take this opportunity and congratulate our students from Mpumalanga Campus who were selected as part of the US Exchange programme. They will depart South Africa mid-August until 2019. We are certain that they will represent the College and the entire country very well. The College is sad to have lost some of its truly dedicated staff members Mr Hopwell Khumalo who was a Senior Lecturer in Mpumalanga Campus in December last year, and Ms GN Nzimande of Ndwendwe Campus and Ms TP Sibisi of Ntuzuma Campus, may their precious souls rest comfortable, we will miss them. A warm welcome to all new staff that has joined the Elangeni TVET family and hope that they will contribute and add value to the College and will work well with fellow staff to plant seeds of greatness. In conclusion, Elangeni TVET will join the National Government Initiative and to be part of the Nelson Mandela legacy campaign and raise awareness about an icon who was the promoter of social cohesion and nation building. We have already started with community project through our skilled students, and we look forward in participating in Mandela Fridays’ campaign. Nelson Mandela would have turned 100 years this year, and in his honour, the State Presi- dent has urged all South Africans to commemorate his legacy. The National Government has launched Nelson Mandela centenary and will implement various activities through out the year. In honour of Madiba, Elangeni TVET College will also join all South African and advocate values that this icon represented through our various platforms. We are pleased that under the slogan #Be The Legacy, our students and staff have contributed to nation building through various com- munity outreach projects. As the College, we have always commemorated this icon during his birth month by ploughing back to the community.
