
World Civilizations First Industrial Revolution (1750-1850) Learning Project DIRECTIONS: Below are listed various activities of 10, 20 and 50 points that when combined will equal 100 points. As the activities get more difficult and more time consuming, the point value increases. You are encouraged to choose activities that interest you from the variety of options and one that you believe will be most beneficial to you in preparation for upcoming assessments. ☺ ACTIVITIES You are to choose a combination of activities that when added together equal 100 points. 10 Point Activities: A. Define the following vocabulary words found in Chapter 7: Enclosure Movement, John Kay, Richard Arkwright, Robert Fulton, George Stephenson, urbanization, tenements, labor unions, Thomas Malthus, flying shuttle B. Locate five pictures/images that accurately portray life during the Industrial Revolution between 1750-1850. The title of the image, source and date must be cited for each picture/image. C. Explain the theme of the following literary works that became popular during the Victorian Era: Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, On the Origins of Species by Charles Darwin, The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, and An Essay on the Principle of Population by Thomas Malthus. Each explanation needs to be a minimum of 3 sentences with source cited. Any explanations that are simply copy and pasted will receive a zero. 20 Point Activities: A. Create a Character Head for two of the following inventors: James Watt, Robert Owen, Robert Fulton, Charles Townshend, Jethro Tull, Henry Bessemer, John Kay, James Hargreaves, Richard Arkwright, George Stephenson, Charles Dickens, Adam Smith, Thomas Malthus (See me for the handout to complete the Character Head) B. Create a complete map of Great Britain. See me to receive a blank map of Great Britain. Label the following places: First Railway from Liverpool to Manchester, London, Birmingham, Brighton, iron ore deposits, canals, coal deposits C. Create a Venn Diagram or T-Chart EXPLAINING seven SPECIFIC differences and similarities between pre-Industrial society and post-Industrial Society 50 Point Activities: A. Create a Crossword Puzzle using the key terms, places, people, events and/or inventions of the First Industrial Revolution (1750-1850). (Chapter 7) You must have a minimum of 12 words and clues. You must also include an answer key. Please use the link provided on my teacher webpage to generate your crossword puzzle. B. Complete the Industrial Revolution Web Quest that is linked on my Teacher Webpage in the Industrial Revolution Folder. See me for the needed handout for this assignment. C. Create 15 Flashcards for the Industrial Revolution between 1750-1850. Any inventor, invention, author, economist, even, place, etc. from the period 1750-1850 (Chapter 7) is acceptable to use. Flashcards must be neatly created, easy to read, historically accurate, include a picture and be colorful.
