The original Scotch Cap light station was destroyed by a Tsunami wave in 1946 and rebuilt in 1950. The facilities include a radio tower, hoist-house, lighthouse, three two- story dwellings, a boathouse, barracks and a shed. Six USTs (one 1,000-gallon, one 3,000 gallon, and two 10,000 gallon, and two unknown) and four ASTs (two 3,000 gallon and two 10,000 gallon) remain; petroleum contaminated soil; landfills (architectural plans and drawings suggest that a landfill was maintained for the disposal of solid waste while the facility was operational); building debris. The U.S, Coast Guard and the Corps of Engineers have investigated the site in the past. Corps determined no-further-action is needed under the FUDS Program. USCG removed some batteries, transformers, drums of used oils, paints, ect. in 1997. The Corps of Engineers conducted a preliminary assessment in 1989.
