Bird and Wildlife Conservation At Rectory Farm we take great pride in our ability to balance the need to conserve and enhance the environment with producing food. Across the farm substantial wildlife improvements have been made through the creation of grass strips around arable fields, planting new hedgerows, improved hedgerow management and providing more feeding and habitats for pollinators and farmland birds. Our passion for birds is evident on the farm, where over the past thirty five years we have enhanced the environment to encourage more birds and wildlife. Due to this work we have had a tremendous increase in both the numbers and species of birds found on the farm including sky larks, linnets, English partridge, tree sparrows, house sparrows and red kites. We have also seen a large increase in the brown hare population. Our local bird watching group constructed over twenty bird boxes in spinneys around the farm in order to provide nesting sites for our farmland birds. These, plus an assortment of falcon and owl boxes are monitored frequently for us to keep abreast of all the activity going on.
