Chemical Name: 2-(3-methoxyphenyl)-2-(ethylamino)-cyclohexanone Chemical structure: Molecular Formula: C15H17NO2 Pharmacological class / Application: Phencyclidine analogue CAS-RN: unknown International status: US: The substance is not listed specifically in the Schedules to the US Controlled Substances Act and is not mentioned anywhere on the DEA website. United Nations: The substance is not listed specifically on the Yellow List - List of Narcotic Drugs under International Control nor the Green List - List of Psychotropic Substances under International Control. Canadian Status: Methoxetamine is not currently listed in the schedules to the CDSA. However, the substance shows significant structural similarity to ketamine, which is currently listed as item 14(1) in Schedule I to the CDSA, under the heading “Phencyclidine (1-(1- phenylcycohexyl)piperidine), its salts, derivative and analogues and salts of derivatives and analogues including”. For the purpose of forming status decisions, an analogue is considered to be a substance that displays significant structural similarity to one listed in the CDSA. Therefore methoxetamine must be included under item 14(1) of Schedule I to the CDSA as an analogue of ketamine. Recommendation: Methoxetamine is included under item 14(1) of Schedule I to the CDSA and is a controlled substance. Date: 25 January 2011.
