Manuscripts and Archives, Yale University Library. Pamphlet collection MS 1351 - Page 4 Description of the Papers The Pamphlet Collection contains a wide range of printed material which documents the cultural, economic, political, and social history of many nations and geographic regions. The vast majority of items are twentieth century publications. Earlier publications (pre-1900) for Latin American (and South American) nations are available in the Latin American Pamphlet Collection (MS 1350). This collection represents a select group of pamphlet material in the Sterling Memorial Library system. It is not inclusive for subject matter nor time period. The collection does provide subject and author/title access to these materials through the use of an automated cataloging system (MATPS). A group of items acquired prior to the automated cataloging project does not appear on the printout. These items are noted on a subject list which appears as an addenda to the main list. The Pamphlet Collection is particularly strong in such subject areas as African literature, Canadian history, German history, and South African history. There are materials arranged under both broad geographic headings (i.e., Africa) and headings for individual countries. The bulk of subject headings begin with the geographic area (i.e., Africa-Politics and government, Cameroon-Education), although select subject headings also appear (i.e., Communism, Suez Canal). Pamphlets which are arranged in boxes 284-300, due to their large size, are annotated on the finding aid. In order to identify the box containing a pamphlet cited on the author-title list, please locate the subject heading which appears within each title entry. The subject heading appears in an abbreviated form and is accompanied by print constants. The first subject heading on this list is "MSS-P CYPR-HIST." The actual subject heading abbreviation is "CYPR-HIST," which stands for Cyprus-History. The other letters and keys are print constants used to produce the list. By referring to the box list, one can determine that this item is located in box 79.
