That’s why we’ve launched ‘The Africa Challenge Cup’ at this year’s Africa Energy Forum (aef) – a football tournament in partnership with Manchester United, Kohler, KOHLER-SDMO and Clarke Energy, with all proceeds going to charity. Taking place at the spectacular “Os Belenenses, Estádio do Restelo” football stadium on the 10th June from 3pm, aef sponsors can sponsor a team of 16 players and have them run out on to one of Lisbon’s iconic stadiums wearing your corporate branded kits, with one of two Man United legends as their manager. LOCATION: Os Belenenses, Estádio do Restelo football stadium DATE: Monday 10th June 2019 TIME: 3pm KEY FACTS • Manchester United Legend Quinton Fortune is confirmed as official Manager of the three Africa Teams, whilst Wes Brown- another Manchester United legend who was widely considered the greatest defender of his era - will manage three Rest of the World (ROW) teams • Each team will have 11 players and five substitutes with a least one female player (all have to play) • Each team will play 30 minutes (split in two 15 minute halves) of the full 90 minutes against either Africa or ROW • Goals will be aggregated and if a draw is reached at the end of 90 minutes we’ll go to penalties – so either Africa or ROW will win. • For the winning teams there will be a medal ceremony with both managers and a multitude of photo opportunities. But don’t worry, if you’re runners up this year you also have a fantastic photo opportunity for your team/s. • For all the teams there will be an unique opportunity to receive from ManUtd legends autographed shirts and take team pictures • The day will finish with a suitable celebration in true EnergyNet style Energy. A natural born defender, the Longsight lad, who could operate at centre- back or right-back, rose through the club’s youth ranks and quickly picked up the winning habit, lifting the FA Youth Cup and Reserves league title before making his first team bow in 1998. His breakthrough campaign ended in the most glorious fashion as he picked up three winner’s medals in the 1998/99 Treble season, setting the tone for a silver-lined Reds career. Wes went on to pick up 11 major honours during the course of 14 senior seasons at Old Trafford – as well as 23 England caps - while his no-nonsense playing style ensured him a spot in the heart of United supporters forevermore. QUINTON FORTUNE - MGR: AFRICA Tough-tackling midfielder Quinton Fortune arrived at United from Atletico Madrid in 1999 as Sir Alex Ferguson sought to bolster his Treblewinning squad. The South African international had made his name as a left-winger in La Liga, but quickly displayed a versatility and strength of character which made him an able performer at left-back and in central midfield as well as an attacking wide man. A string of injuries disrupted Quinton’s playing career at Old Trafford, but his determination and drive to overcome them, plus his notoriously playful streak behind the scenes, meant he remained a popular squad member with his peers. Fortune’s final game for the club was in the ill-fated 2005 FA Cup Final defeat to Arsenal, where he excelled in the biggest game of his club career.
