Job Description Post Title: Medical Physicist - Neuroscience Post Status: Specific Purpose Department Department of Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Location: Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9 Reports to: Principal Physicist Salary: Appointment will be made on the Physicist scale (€37,876 - €65,280) at a point in line with Government pay policy. Hours of work: Full-Time 37 hours Closing Date: 12 Noon on 26/02/2020 Please note interviews will be held on Thursday 05/03/2020 so candidates must be available on this date. Position Summary: This post is in the Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering (MPCE). The department’s mission is to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of clinical services through the optimisation of electro-medical, imaging, and information and communication technology for the benefit of patients. The post holder will be primarily involved in the provision of scientific and technical support to clinical services in Neurosciences, including participation in teaching, research and service developments. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Maintain an awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all hospital activities; 2. Provide medical physics/clinical engineering support, as required for neurosurgical, neuroscience and diagnostic imaging services; 3. Contribute to the development and provision of quality assurance (QA) programmes for a range of medical equipment; 4. Carry out neuro-imaging processing according to developed protocols as required; 5. Contribute to the development and support of advanced neuroimaging services to optimise diagnostic yield, plan and monitor treatment (e.g. quantitative image analysis, multi-modal image registration, neuronavigation); 6. In partnership with clinical colleagues, participate in research and development programmes designed to improve the understanding and application of diagnostic imaging and medical equipment to the diagnosis and treatment of disease; 7. Capture and analyse data as part of further development of neuroscience services, processes and procedures; 8. Make value judgements in unfamiliar situations; 9. Support AV technology where it is relevant to neuroscience clinical service delivery. 10. Attend multidisciplinary clinical meetings; 11. Communicate validated scientific advice and uncertainty clearly and accurately to others; 12. Contribute to the processes concerned with specification, purchase, installation, commissioning and ongoing maintenance of new equipment as required; 13. To contribute to the management and administration of clinical neuroscience medical equipment to fully support the clinical user and healthcare delivery. This will include medical equipment hardware and software, licensing and medical device vigilance; 14. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records; 15. Contribute, as required to safety programmes for medical equipment, such as MRI and radiation safety programmes and appropriate licensing procedures related to imaging equipment and radioisotopes, electrical and mechanical safety programmes, decontamination and vigilance programmes; 16. Recognise incident and event situations and take appropriate action; 17. Liaise and develop collaborative working relations as required with other staff and grades in the department and throughout the hospital; 18. Keep abreast of current developments in the field and ensure that own knowledge and skills are kept up- to-date by participation in appropriate continuing education and professional development activities; 19. Be fully familiar with the terms of the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act, and all relevant policy documents of the hospital; 20. Ensure that all departmental reports and hospital records are confidential to the service and to maintain confidentiality in respect of matters which come to your knowledge in the course of your official duty; Selection Criteria: Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post. The candidate must hold a recognised first or second class honours degree of a recognised university in Physics, Engineering, or a cognate discipline (for the purpose of this post cognate disciplines include Electronic and Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related areas of applied Physics/Instrumentation or hold a recognised qualification at least equivalent to thereto, b. have satisfactory relevant experience in the field of medical physics. c. possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
