Robyn Trinder Assignment: Ident (Nick Jr) Unit 59: Stop Motion Animation Production Robyn Trinder Stop motion Animation Stop motion is an animation technique that makes a physical object, which is created by moving the object by individual photo frames by creating the illusion of movement when the frames are played in “continuous sequence. There are different varieties of object that you can use while creating a stop motion film, these are: Clay Animation Clay animation is a character or background that is mostly made out of Plasticine clay. Clay animation is properly the most used technique and material that are used in the stop motion industry. Cutout Animation Cutout animation is a technique that is used to create animations such as characters, backgrounds and props. The materials that are use to create Cutout animations are, paper, card, stiff fabric or photographs. Robyn Trinder Object animation Object animation is a stop motion animation that involves the use of non-drawn object like toys, blocks, dolls, cutlery etc. Object animation can also be combined with other forms of animation from model animation and puppet animation. Puppet Animation There is not much information about puppet animation; only that puppet animation is a stop motion animation that uses still puppets, which is near enough is similar to Clay animation. Robyn Trinder Pixilation Animation Pixilation animation is one of the most difficult forms of stop motion animation; this is because live actors change their movement in each frame that is taken. They also pose while multiple frames are taken and their position is changed slightly in every frame. Silhouette Animation Silhouette animation involves characters that are only visible as black silhouettes. This is mostly by using back lighting detailed cardboard cut outs. There are other methods to create this animation, though this animation is inspired by shadow paly. Robyn Trinder Origami Origami is art that is made out of paper by folding which is mostly associated with Japanese culture. Not only that most Origami folders will often use the Japanese word Kirigami, which refers to the design’s use of cuts, glue or the use of marking on paper. The idea of Origami is to transform flat sheets of paper into a sculpture by folding and sculpture techniques. There are different types of Origami that you can make, which are: • Action Origami – is when Origami can be animated. There is a traditional action model that is called the flapping bird, which involves some special action in this case it will be the wings that will move. • Modular Origami - is when you use two or more pieces of paper, which is to create a larger and complex structure. Each septet pieces of paper is fouled into a module or unit that assembles into an “integrated flat shape or three dimensional structure”, which then flaps into pockets that is created by the folding process. • Wet folding – is a new way of folding paper, which was developed by origami master Akira Yoshizawa. This involves moistening the paper before you start to fold it. The finish model will have a softer textured look with gentle curing lines unlike the action and the pure-land Origami. • Pure-land Origami – is a style Origami that was invented by the British paper folder John Smith, which is limited to using only mountain and valley folds. The pure-land Origami is to make Origami easier for inexperienced folders and those who have impaired motor skills. • Origami tessellations – is the same as drawing tessellations on paper, except with Origami tessellations you are repeating the same design of origami on paper. Shuzo Fujimoto was the first to explore the origami tessellations, by coming up with a dozen of different patterns and establishing the genre in the Origami mainstream. • Kirigami – is a variation of Origami that includes cutting paper then solely folding the paper like Origami. Kirigami is mostly symmetrical, such as creating snowflakes, pentagrams or Orchid Blossoms. Robyn Trinder Nick Jr is the Indent that I have chosen for this project. Nick Jr is children’s channel that is an American digital cable and satellite television that is owned by the MTV Networks Kids and Family group, along with the age group between 6 and 11. Robyn Trinder Working Progress Steps to create the grass First I create the grass by making the A4 piece of paper into a square by folding the paper into a triangle and then cut the paper that was unneeded. I then used the unneeded piece of paper and done the same step again, which made the paper to an even smaller square. I now start to follow the instructions to create the grass and I done this for another fifteen times till I have enough grass to fill my A3 piece of paper at the bottom of the paper and the coloured the grass in green. I then started to fold the paper in to a triangle and then fold it again, so the triangle became even smaller. I then unfolded the paper so it was back into a square, which was left with a cross on the paper. After that I just kept on folding and fling the instructions that was given to me and eventually turned into a sun, which I later on colour in yellow. I created the tree by using a square piece of paper that was by 20cm- 20cm. To create the tree I folded the paper into a triangle twice so it would leave an outline so I could then fold the paper again so two sides of the paper will fold and then meet into the middle. I then started to bend part of the diamond shape paper and then flipped it over so I can then start to fold again so the bottom of the tree look more like a tree stump. I created this by using the same size paper that I used for the grass and by folding the paper into a rectangle then fold two of the corners, while the paper is back to a square. I then just started to fold all of the corners so cloud will look more of a rounded cloud then a square cloud. I then started to fold two of the corners that will meet in the middle and then the shape of the paper will look like a kite. After that I then took the two corners that meet in the middle and then I folded outwards. I then flip the paper over and the folded the bottom part of the kit and fouled till the point reached the top of the kite. After that I then flip the paper over so can fold the top part of the paper over so the flower is less pointy and to see the rose and the stem. To finish off the rose I had to create the leaves separately, which didn’t take too long to do.
