Nonetheless, upon its debut, there was a general consensus that Rhapsody in Blue helped bring jazz to the mainstream. Commissioned by the great band leader Paul Whiteman (pictured above), the Rhapsody debuted on February 12, 1924 on stage at Aeolian Hall, New York City, with 2014 marking its 90th anniversary. The Music Library has several resources that highlight Rhapsody in Blue’s illustrious past. Ranging from a first edition which is located in the Archives (pictured above), to Naxos Music Library - Jazz offers 65,000+ several key pieces of scholarship on Gershwin’s jazz tracks from over 6,000 albums.
