For the first 80 years of The University of Alabama’s history, the University and its ACADEMIC HONORS WEEK 2020 College of Arts and Sciences were one in the same In 1911, The University of Alabama’s first professional school was established, expanding the University’s curriculum for the first time beyond the liberal arts Today, the College of Arts and Sciences remains the academic TABLE OF CONTENTS heart of The University of Alabama It plays a central role in the education of all 30,000 of the University’s undergraduates by providing foundational courses in the sciences, humanities, 12th chapter in the nation to be established and the oldest chapter in the Deep South The nation’s first premedical honor Departmental Graduate and Undergraduate Awards 19 society, Alpha Epsilon Delta, was established here The College has more than 30 active Blount Scholars Program Class of 2020 41 national honor society chapters Arts and Sciences students regularly receive national recognition and have earned 2020 Inductees into Academic Honors Societies in the College of Arts and Sciences 42 15 Rhodes Scholarships, 41 Goldwater Scholarships, 13 Truman Scholarships, and 74 student Fulbright Awards College of Arts and Sciences Peer Advisors 49 Leaders are those who have the ability to think creatively and analyze effectively The College believes that the liberal arts
