FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO MARIJUANA ABUSE AMONG ROAD TRANSPORT WORKERS IN ISHAKA TOWN, BUSHENYI DISTRICT A RESEARCH REPORT SUBMITED TO UGANDA NURSES AND MIDWIVES EXAMINATIONS BOARD IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENT FOR THE AWARD OF THE DIPLOMA IN NURSING SCIENCES BY MUBANGIZI EVARIST N15/U011/DNE/029 APRIL, 2017 ABSTRACT Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the world, with reports of approximately 125 to 203 million people having used the drug in the last year. Purpose of the study was to find out factors contributing to Marijuana abuse among Road Transport Workers in Ishaka town, Bushenyi district. This was a descriptive cross-sectional design was used involving 83 respondents in which quantitative data was collected using multi stage cluster method. Majority of them was age range 20-29 years while the very few were ranges 40-49 years and 50 years or more with many being male. The participant’s opinions were that they are bothered by people using marijuana while only few were not. Majority were also bothered by adults using marijuana in front of children and selling in the neighborhood while on was neutral. Most participants 56% currently smoke or chew marijuana at least once per month while very few 4% smoke or chewed marijuana every day. The results found majority smoke sticks of marijuana 1-5 and 11-15 in a week, the finding reveal that majority smoke marijuana to be wise and past time (others) while least to be stress free. Results show that out of 83 participants 47.0% said marijuana smoker drive/ride faster after smoking while only 20.5% other like feel fit in the society. Community should be sensitized about dangers of the marijuana so that the number of abusers would be minimized.
