The game has also been designated as the KCAC Game of the Week and is the 2016 Blake Reed Memorial Game. General Information Location ............................McPherson, Kan. Both teams will be looking for their fi rst win of the season as McPherson opened with road losses at Nebraska Wesleyan (34- 29) and Dordt (27-13), while Southwestern dropped a 57-0 decision at NCAA Division I FCS Missouri State. Founded ...............................................1887 President ...................Dr. Michael Schneider For the McPherson community, the name Blake Reed continues to be an inspiration to many people and for McPherson Col- lege…the name means a tradition and namesake to the football program. VP of Academic Affairs .........Dr. Bruce Clary Blake Reed was born in 1988 and was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the age of two. Blake grew up like any Athletic Director .....................Andrew Ehling other little boy – he ran, he loved being outside, he loved swimming, he jumped on our trampoline, and he rode tricycles with Athletic Communications Dir. ...Joshua Schroeder the neighborhood kids. As Blake grew older this type of Muscular Dystrophy caused his muscles to weaken and eventually he required physical therapy and the assistance of a motorized wheelchair to continue on with the things he loved to do in life. Affi liation ...............................................NAIA Blake’s passion was sparked in the eighth grade when he attended a practice at McPherson College, where his paraprofes- Stadium (Cap.) ....McPherson Stadium (3,000) sional was an assistant coach. Nickname........................................ Bulldogs Although Blake was physically not able to play, the coach held him to the same expectations as the players. Blake made a Colors ...................................Red and White commitment to himself and the team and from that point on, his love for football grew. After graduating high school, Blake attended McPherson College and was granted a managerial position with the Bulldogs. Football History Blake was more than just a manager, however. He was the Bulldogs’ most positive and biggest fan. Blake routinely tried to re- cruit McPherson High School players to come play for McPherson College. Last Playoff Appearance .........Nov. 20, 2010 The recipient must, “Most closely exemplify the attributes of Blake Reed,” in that they 1) assume a leadership role on and off .........................vs. McKendree (Ill.), L 38-14 the fi eld, 2) encourage others to strive to be their best, 3) demonstrate sportsmanship, 4) display dedication and commitment to the high school and college football programs, and 5) maintain a positive attitude even when faced with diffi cult situations. Recipients must also be planning to pursue a degree at McPherson College and be a member of the Bulldogs Football Team. Coach’s Information Funds for the scholarship are partly funded by the annual Blake Reed Memorial Game and the Blake Reed Miracle Mile. The Head Coach.......................
