National Postseason Harry Statham (Stay-them), the all-time wins leaders in men’s 1966-67 13-10 .565 -- college basketball history, is in his 51st season as the men’s basket- 1967-68 20-7 .741 -- ball coach at McKendree University in 2016-17. 1968-69 21-6 .778 -- Over his 50 years at the helm of the McKendree program, Statham 1969-70 19-6 .760 -- has amassed 1,101 victories. Of all the milestone victories reached 1970-71 15-12 .556 -- by Statham during his legendary career, perhaps none is more sig- 1971-72 21-7 .750 -- nificant that the Bearcats’ 92-84 win collected at Maryville University 1972-73 23-6 .793 -- on Feb. 6, 2016. That victory was No. 1,099 in Statham’s coaching 1973-74 24-8 .750 -- 1974-75 17-9 .654 -- tenure, which pushed him past the late University of Tennessee 1975-76 17-9 .654 -- women’s coach Pat Summitt for the all-time wins record at a four- 1976-77 21-5 .808 -- year institution -- men’s or women’s. The moment garnered national 1977-78 15-11 .577 -- media attention for Coach Statham, his program and the University. 1978-79 20-11 .645 -- Just five days later, a 19-point, second-half comeback highlighted 1979-80 22-9 .710 -- a 108-105 overtime win at home against Missouri S&T on Feb. 11, 1980-81 27-7 .794 -- 2016. That triumph made Statham the first college basketball coach 1981-82 18-12 .600 -- at a four-year institution to reach 1,100 career victories. 1982-83 20-9 .690 -- Statham has coached in a record 1,581 collegiate games entering 1983-84 18-19 .486 -- the 2016-17 campaign. He surpassed the record established by for- 1984-85 22-11 .667 -- mer Mt. St. Mary’s coach Jim Phelan, who guided his teams for 1,354 1985-86 22-14 .611 -- games over a 49-year career. Statham coached in his 1,500th career 1986-87 30-5 .857 -- game at home on Feb. 21, 2013 against Kentucky Wesleyan College 1987-88 35-1 .972 NAIA Sweet 16 During his storied career at McKendree, Statham has led the Bearcats to post-season play 41 times. Statham 1988-89 17-15 .531 -- coached McKendree to all 15 of its NAIA national tournament berths, including runs of five straight appearances from 1989-90 20-14 .588 -- 1999-2004 and again from 2006-11. Statham’s teams have averaged 22 wins per season since his first season of 1990-91 23-9 .719 -- 1966-67, and have reached the 20-win mark 35 times under his tutelage. 1991-92 31-6 .838 NAIA 1st Rd. 1992-93 27-9 .750 NAIA 1st Rd. The list of awards and honors received by Statham is endless. He was selected as the 2001-02 NAIA Men’s Basket- 1993-94 26-8 .765 -- ball Coach of the Year. Statham received American Midwest Conference Coach of the Year award eight different times. 1994-95 27-6 .818 -- He is also a six-time recipient of NAIA District 20 Coach of the Year honors. Statham has been named the NAIA-Illinois 1995-96 25-9 .735 NAIA Sweet 16 Basketball Coaches Association Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year 12 times. 1996-97 28-9 .757 NAIA Elite 8 In 2005, Statham was recognized by two different national organizations for his coaching accomplishments. At 1997-98 26-8 .765 -- the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) national convention in St. Louis, Statham was honored by his 1998-99 21-11 .656 -- coaching peers as he received the organization’s Guardians of the Game Leadership Award. 1999-2000 25-8 .756 NAIA 1st Rd. Later that summer, Statham was named the winner of the Distinguished Service Award from the United States 2000-01 27-9 .750 NAIA 1st Rd. Sports Academy. The award is given annually to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to national or 2001-02 30-5 .857 NAIA Sweet 16 international sports through education, research or service. In the summer of 2006, the Lebanon City Council honored 2002-03 34-4 .895 NAIA Fab Four Statham by renamed a portion of Alton Street -- which runs along the eastern edge of the McKendree campus which 2003-04 24-10 .706 NAIA 1st Rd.
