Stagecraft-Create a Costume Character

916 STAGECRAFT LESSON / PROJECT: CREATE A COSTUME FOR CHARACTER PROJECT DURATION: 2 weeks to prepare (incl. Thanksgiving week) (11/18 to 12/4) OBJECTIVES: Creativity and Skill designing and assembling a costUme look MISSION: Design and create a distinctive character look with clothes and accessories from home. Have fun showing how your chosen character will dress and look. The possibilities are limitless! YoU coUld be a sports coach, a painter artist, a policeman, a construction worker, a clown, someone from any past era (1950's, 1890's, etc), a hip-hop urban look. Exceptions to a character chosen: no "stUdents", "teachers", "modern bUsiness man" or anyone that dresses just as you do in school or at home. Learn to think in terms of a costUme designer how to dress and accessorize a particular character. Start with sketching on a piece of paper a drawing of you character costume design. Look around the house and make sure you could find the necessary clothes and accessories that represent the character. There is a minimum of two (2) accessories that must be inclUded in yoUr costUme (bUt the more the better). LIST OF ACCESSORIES TO INCLUDE WITH COSTUME (choose at least 2): 1. A hat, cap (any kind) 5. Fake beard 9. Anything yoU can come Up with 2. Glasses (or sUnglasses) 6. A wig 3. A scarf 7. A smoke pipe (or cigar) 4. Fake mustache 8. A prop associated with character Examples for #8: A drunk man (alcohol bottle), A policeman (gun), A musician (guitar) EXPECTATIONS: 1. This is a fun project! Use your creativity to create an original design idea in assembling a costUme for a particular character. Be a Costume designer! 2. Be able to resemble and justify wearing the costUme in a theater play. 3. The more detailed or difficUlty (vintage, classic costume) into accomplishing a specific character costUme, the chance for a better grade score. 3. Not understanding something, or Not having clothing pieces or accessories to work with (yoU shoUld create yoUr character based on what yoU coUld be able to get) are inexcUsable reasons for not presenting the project. Write me an email if any sitUation prevents you from doing the project, and I’ll help yoU find a solution. INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Being this an e-Learning (remote) assignment, yoUr project will be done individUally from home, and the sUbmission method will be 3 pictures (from different angles) of yoU wearing the costUme sent via email to me ([email protected]). 2. You will have 2 weeks (inclUding Thanksgiving week) to design, look for, find, create and assemble the costUme for yoUr chosen character. In the case we go back to fUll school in-person classes, yoU will bring yoUr pieces to class and make the final presentation in the classroom. 3. The first step after choosing your character will be to let me know which one you chose so we can talk aboUt it and give yoU some suggestions. Then, the second will be designing it and creating the drawing sketch on a piece of paper, and submitting it to me by email. Then yoU can start looking for and assembling the costUme pieces. 4. The use of more accessories can get you additional points. 5. You are allowed to find your costume pieces by either using yours, from family members, borrowing and/or bUying (or order them at Amazon or anywhere online, but be mindfUl of the time it takes to deliver). 6. Again, more than anything, I value your vision, ideas, creativity and craft into designing and assembling a costume. If yoU have any qUestions, please write me an email at: [email protected] Be creative and have fun at it! Mr. Acevedo .
