The Real Schools Guide 2018, compiled by data analysts at Reach, Leicestershire Live's parent company, aims to give a far more comprehensive picture than traditional league tables. It takes into account 51 different data points - including not just GCSE results and Attainment 8 scores but also factors like Progress 8, pupil-teacher ratios and absence rates. The Guide, now in its sixth year, has been praised by ministers and education experts alike. Former schools minister David Laws called it 'public-service journalism in the best tradition'. This year's results put Rushey Mead Academy on top as the best school in Leicester and Leicestershire. In second place is Limehurst Academy, in Loughborough, while third is Oadby’s Beauchamp College. Madani Girls’ School, in Evington, is the city’s second best performing secondary school. Rushey Mead Academy, which has 1,687 student on its roll and is part of the Rushey Mead Educational Trust, is located within one of the most unique and diverse communities in the East Midlands. Principal Rita Hindocha said the school is committed to giving pupils a rounded education, where extra-curricular activities such as sport and music are also encouraged. She said: “The academy has a long and sustained history of success, in all aspects of provision, so that students leave as well rounded citizens poised to play an active part in British society.” .
