Clement Reid of Lisnadill, County Armagh, Northen Ireland

Clement Reid of Lisnadill, County Armagh, Northen Ireland Clement Reid (b. 1845) my great great grandfather was born in northern Ireland near Armagh. He was a tenant of land near Letmacollum, Lisnadill owned by the Earl of Gosford. His daughter Isabella Reid was born in Belfast in 1872 and married William Tritton in 1895. Their son Robert Arthur Tritton Welch was our maternal grandfather. Griffith ’s Valuation is the name widely given to the Primary Valuation of Ireland, a property tax survey carried out in the mid- nineteenth century under the supervision of Sir Richard Griffith. The survey involved the detailed valuation of every taxable piece of agricultural or built property on the island of Ireland and was published county-by-county between the years 1847 and 1864. Figure 1:Griffiths valuation register for Clement Reid’s land in Lisnadill Parish. Figure 2: Griffiths Valuation Map (1847) for the Letmacollum area. Clement Reid’s land was applotments 15 and 16. 1 The tithe applotment records for 1832 list three Reid farms in Letmacollum. One held by Thomas senior, one by Thomas junior and one by William. One of those is likely to be Clements’ father and the other two could well be related, being in the same small townland. Figure 3: Same area on Google satellite view. No change in the field boundaries and houses in the same locations.
