NO.______ Introduced by SENATOR SONNY ANGARA RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING ALEXANDRA M. EALA FOR SUCCESSFULLY DOMINATING THE 2020 AUSTRALIAN OPEN — JUNIOR GIRLS’ DOUBLES HELD IN MELBOURNE PARK, AUSTRALIA ON JANUARY 31, 2020 1 WHEREAS, on January 31, 2020, Filipino top junior tennis player Alexandra 2 “Alex” M. Eala together with her Indonesian partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho 3 emerged victorious in the Junior Girls’ Doubles event of the 2020 Australian Open 4 held in Melbourne Park, Australia; 5 WHEREAS, the Australian Open, an annual tournament held every January, is 6 hailed as one of the world’s major tennis championships and the first of the four 7 high level Grand Slam events; 8 WHEREAS, with outstanding skill and teamwork, the Southeast Asian team of 9 Eala and Nugroho successfully defeated Slovenia’s Ziva Falkner and United 10 Kingdom’s Matilda Mutavdzic in the final which lasted 49 minutes and ended with a 11 straight set of 6-1, 6-2; 12 WHEREAS, from rank eighth (8th), 14-year old Alex Eala’s ranking in the 13 prestigious International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Junior Rankings rose to 14 fourth (4th) after securing the Grand Slam title and earning a total score of one 15 thousand seven hundred eighteen and seventy-five (1,718.75); 16 WHEREAS, Alexandra’s hard work and perseverance serves as an inspiration 17 for all our Filipino athletes aspiring to dominate the world stage. Her achievement, 18 even at a young age, is a motivation for our youth to participate and be active in 19 sports; 1 WHEREAS, Alexandra M. Eala’s momentous success deserve commendation 2 for the glory, honor, and pride she has brought to the country; 3 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the 4 Senate of the Philippines to congratulate and commend Alexandra M. Eala for 5 successfully dominating the 2020 Australian Open — Junior girls’ doubles held in 6 Melbourne Park, Australia on January 31, 2020. Adopted, SONNY ANGARA 2 .
