For further information visit our website: www.abbothall.org.uk 7 Armitt Museum AND Library The Armitt Library was founded over a century ago to provide a reference library for the scholarly community that lived in and around Ambleside. It had a close relationship with the Charlotte Mason College, now part of the University of Cumbria. Apart from the library, which contains 14,500 volumes including many rare books, it holds the Beatrix Potter natural history collection, the Kurt Schwitters collection of works, the Charlotte Mason Archive, a collection of Neolithic, bronze age, Roman artefacts and various manuscripts and ephemera relating to the history of the Lake District. It is currently housed in a purpose built building opened in 1997. CPD opportunities We offer a number of 2 hour CPD opportunities for teachers.
