July/August 2016 HAMPTON BAYS PUBLIC LIBRARY bridge to life long learning A Message from the Director Teens Thank you to all who came out and voted on the June 14 Building Referendum. Since this Programs & News newsletter went to print before the vote I am unable to give results here, but information is 2-3 available on the library’s website and in the library. The Hampton Bays Public Library will hold its annual budget vote on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 in the library from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Copies of the proposed 2017 budget will be mailed to district residents and may be obtained in the library by July 25. A Budget Hearing will be held Children’s Room on August 2, 2016 at 7:00 pm during the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees. Learn & Play Did you know that parking is permitted in front of the Library on Ponquogue Avenue? The 4-6 Ponquogue entrance of the Library is open during regular hours. The Friends of the Library Annual Membership letter is included in this mailing. The Friends rely on membership dues and proceeds from the Friends Book Store to fund Summer Reading Clubs, special programs and purchases for the Library. If you are not currently a member, Español/Spanish please join and become a Friend! The Friends will host an Author Luncheon on July 21 at Oakland’s Restaurant featuring Guest Author Patricia McCormick, who worked with Malala Programas y Servicios Yousafzai, the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, to create her memoir I am Malala. 7 Tickets are selling fast and are available at the circulation desk. The Friends are currently seeking a recording secretary to join the Friends Board. As always, each department is offering an exciting array of new and ongoing programs for patrons of all ages and interests. Come in and see the new 3D printer in the Teen Department! July/August 2016 3 News from The Children’s Room Summer Programs Registration for the Summer session begins Wednesday, June 29 and is ongoing through this session. Registration MUST be in person. Phone registration begins Thursday, June 30 and is ongoing through this session. Programs with registration limits are filled on a first come, first served basis. Each child must have his/her own HBPL library card in order to register. Summer Reading Club!! How fortunate are we to be surrounded by beautiful beaches where we live? Grab your surf board, sand toys and sunscreen, pack a lunch and don’t forget your book! You can put it all in our cool carry along lounge chair (well, everything but the board!).
