Notice to the Wildlife Import/Export Community

NOTICE TO THE WILDLIFE IMPORT/EXPORT COMMUNITY June 30, 2004 Revoked April 29, 2005 Archived May 2, 2005 Subject: Changes in Procedures for Applying for U.S. CITES Certificates Background: The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s Division of Management Authority (DMA), which is responsible for issuing U.S. CITES certificates, has delegated the authority to issue certain CITES export and re-export certificates to the Office of Law Enforcement. To facilitate the protection of the world’s wildlife and improve regulation of wildlife trade, DMA has revised some of those delegations. As result, Service law enforcement offices will no longer issue re-export certificates for certain amphibian and reptile species. Action: Effective immediately, all applications for re-export certificates for the CITES species or genera listed below must be submitted to DMA along with the appropriate application fee. This requirement applies to all exporters (including hobbyists and pet owners as well as those engaged in commercial trade) and to all specimens regardless of their country of origin or whether they are identified as wild, ranched, or captive-bred.
