Things Are Changing!

The Tattler Port Albert’s FREE Community Newsletter! Issue No 101 – March 2018 Things are changing! You would have noticed that works have commenced on our boat ramp! Change is here. SMC Marine commenced work on Sunday 18th Feb and have moved quite quickly. Their aim to minimalise disruption as much as possible, but of course we do have to consider the fact that in order to build the new they have to remove the old! It was a sad day to see the beautiful old jetty being dismantled. It has become extremely unsafe and an eyesore. FACT: Grant money received for this project has come from Recreational Fishing. FACT: Wellington Shire will complete the carpark project using Shire money. Recreational fishers both locally & our visitors have been quite vocal that the upgrade will be a positive outcome for our facilities. If it brings more visitors to Port Albert - we are yet to find out! At least we will keep our current locals and visitors as SAFE as possible by upgrading our current facilities. We do hope our community embraces the change! Proudly supported by Wellington Shire Council. Editors: Port Albert Progress Association. Issue No 101 – March 2018 Food for Thought……………. With many things happening in Port Albert at the moment, the boat ramp isnt the only change! We are seeing successful working groups of community volunteers coming together to better our town. Over the next 12 – 18 months these groups are working towards a safe swimming area located at Rutter Park, a mural on our Water Tower & attempting to fix our drainage issue. What a thank less job they do working through all the red tape and being committed to such big projects, do we really want to let them be confronted with keyboard warriors using bullying tactics to stop change? Do they really need to be called foul names and their integrity attacked all because they are trying to make our town more appealing to our visitors, and stop it from dying? Its so sad that Port Albert has some community members that are willing to voice their very strong opinion through email or Facebook. When faced, these people bow their heads and walk away. Their opinion is not usually about the project, its personal towards our working group members! Protected by their computer, we can often feel useless to stop it as these people do not attend any community meetings that could very well answer the questions they are looking for answers to. Would they get the same response from a group if they stood up in a forum and vocalised what they were saying on the internet? Refusal to attend local Community meetings leads to wrong answers & gossip. Lets take this opportunity to say thank you to all our local volunteer community members for all their hard work. Many work fulltime but are so passionate about Port Albert and its future they make the effort to pitch in. I myself have been subject to these community members on more than one occasion. I have been called names, told I cant park on the street, canT increase my equipment in my business, a liar, a thief and an idiot. All because I have a passion to show people how beautiful our town really is. By wanting to help with change. Please look after our own, our community and our volunteers, don’t cater to these warriors – lets make a stand! Kerrie Parkinson Do you have an opinion? Photos of whats happening in Port Albert? Gippsland Regional Written by Venetia Beaney Maritime Museum January was a busy month for the Museum with stats showing our visitor numbers up 25% on the Open Daily September to May same month last year. We also entertained some 10.00am - 4.00pm Weekends and group bookings with a tour of the Museum and School Holidays During June - August tea/coffee out on our deck afterwards. These events are always enjoyed by our visitors. A vivid insights into the early history of Port Albert as the gateway to The Citadel Lighthouse in the garden is presently Gippsland and its colourful maritime being repaired and painted. The Citadel history. Lighthouse was removed from Citadel Island and presented to PAMM in 2004. Over the intervening years the elements have taken their toll, resulting in rust patches and peeling paint. The work should be 78 Tarraville Rd, Port Albert, VIC completed in February, please come and have a 3971 look. Next on the repaint and repair agenda is the Fairway Bouy or Safe Water Mark, recognizable by its vertical red and white stripes. Our Fairway Bouy has need of a brush down to remove accumulated rust and then a freshen up of the red and white paint. This project hopefully will be complete sometime in March. Issue No 101 – March 2018 Wellington Shire News! Renewal of Pet Registrations are on their way! Wellington Shire Council now offers Pet owners the option of receiving their registration notices via email. With all pets over the age of 3 months required to be registered with the Council, this new email service will make it easier to ensure pet registration details are up to date. When registered pets are found wandering, Wellington Shire Council local laws officers will attempt to reunite them with their owners. It is important that when moving to a new house, pet registrations are transferred to your new address. Pet registration fees contribute to the running of the Animal Aid shelter which is made up mostly by volunteers. More than 80% of animals brought to the shelter are reunited with their owners. Those not collected are placed for adoption. The fees also fund education and resources to assist with pet related complaints, dangerous and restricted breed dog management, emergency relief equipment, facilities and compliance. Pet registration renewals will be distributed in March for payment in April. If you would prefer to receive your registration renewal via email, register via this link; https://registrations.pml.com.au/wellingtonshire Register your pet by contacting Council’s Customer Service Team on 1300 366 244 or by calling in to Council’s Service Centre in Sale or Yarram.
