Senate Hearing on Rice Smuggling FPI Chairman Jesus Lim Arranza attended the continuation of the Senate hearing on Rice Smuggling which was held at the Senate of the Philippines last Tuesday, September 12, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. Another shipment of rice in Legaspi was issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention by the BOC due also to the absence of an import permit. The Senate Committees on Agriculture & Food, Ways & Means, Trade & Commerce, and Blue Ribbon which is conducting a joint public hearing in response to the Privilege Speech of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile on Rice Smuggling at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, will also investigate smuggling on coconut, palm oil and other agricultural products. The Senate wants to finally put an end and unmask the people behind smuggling of these various agricultural products. Creation of FPI Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Committee The Federation is currently forming the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Committee. DTI Trade Consultative System: One Country, One Voice (OCOV) The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) launched in 2011 their trade consultative system, One Country, One Voice (OCOV). The consultation aims to solicit stakeholder feedback on the studies conducted by the Philippine Institute for Developmental Studies (PIDS) on the possible impact of a PH- EU FTA. The DTI is extending their invitation to Federation members to participate in the OCOV PH- EU Consultation: An Impact Assessment of the Proposed Philippines-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on 20 September 2012, 8:30 a.m. at the Philippine Trade Training Center corner Sen. 2 Gil Puyat Avenue and Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
