Three years ago the writer of t hi s volume be gan to gather together facts and t raditions concerning the parish a t o committed to hi s charge . The immedi t e purpose was give one or two lectures t o such of his parishioners as cared to know more of the history and antiquities of the parish . at a a and at Two lectures were given E st Le ke , one and a n t was West Leake , a gr tifyi g in erest shewn in the a . vill ge story Some , who were present , expressed the hope a th t the lectures might appear in a permanent form . I t soon became manifest that the publication of t he lectures in the form given would involve the omission of many historical facts which seemed worthy of publication was a and so it fin lly decided to rewrite the matter, illustrate a it in the way in which it ppears .
