Product Info Inhibitors The solution for controlled pickling of iron and steel Advantages: Suitable for use on excessive contamination and oxide layers Significantly minimizes material loss from the components Reduces hydrogen formation Curtails pickling acid consumption Achieves a metallically clean surface Applications: Oxidized and/or welded steel parts Components are pickled in mineral acid to remove corrosion and scale as well as oxides and welding residues from the metal surfaces. To reduce the pickling attack on the base material to a minimum and prevent excessive hydrogen formation during the pickling process, small amounts of inhibitors are added. Chemetall offers a wide range of inhibitor technologies for a controlled pickling process. These technologies can be used for all scale and oxide removal applications on iron and steel and only differ in terms of the pickling acid involved. Inhibitors Selected technologies to reduce the pickling attack of mineral acid based pickling agents Atmospheric corrosion or the heat treatment of iron and steel lead to the formation of scale and corrosion layers on the metal surfaces. Moreover, oxide and welding residues lead to poor paint adhesion. To prevent this, the components are pickled with mineral acids. Whereas, in the case of uncontrolled pickling in non-inhibited acid, iron and steel continue to be dissolved after the iron oxides have been removed with formation of hydrogen, for controlled pickling the inhibited acids help to almost completely protect the cleaned bare metal surfaces against further acid attack. As a leading global player in surface treatment technology, Chemetall offers a portfolio of inhibitors that largely prevent the pickling attack on the substrate.
